Bang on. If you're a long way away in a field then obviously not; but close enough you can tell, just keep the environment the same whilst conducting the experiment.
Condensation on walls would definitely have a effect, but as discussed earlier you can hear the difference.
In fairness to the curdled one, a shower is going to be around 45 degrees, maybe more. Not that hot compared to boiling water, so the sounds would perhaps be less different in the shower case.
