You could certainly see the confidence in him after he scored.

Meanwhile In England
The initial tweet posts a picture of a lenient judge letting monsters roam our streets. Hard to conclude that that isn't exactly their intention. No doubt we all read it and thought the same thing - that seems wrong. What's weird about this stuff in the social media age is that so many people latch onto that initial reaction without question. When we have more information than ever before available at our fingertips, our default response should surely be "that seems wrong - let me find out more before I reach a conclusion". A quick google shows the sentences for the others involved, so the narrative of a crazy judge soft on rapists starts to fall apart. There's clearly reasons why the judge has decided on the sentence for this one given what she did with the others - I suspect the big clue is in her description of him as easily led and his age at the time. In any case, there's probably court transcripts knocking about online if anyone's still sufficiently concerned. Fwiw, once you accept there's probably some context to the sentence, I think it is fair to question the agenda of UNN who made the initial tweet attacking the judge (once bitten twice shy and all that). No desire to jump too far down that rabbit hole, but for context here's a piece on David Clews, the guy behind UNN https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/former-scots-tory-councillor-emerged-31422962

the three others got 18 years, 13 years and 5 1/2 years, so does seem a bit baffling.

criminal waste of beer that. Can't be from Yorkshire them lads.

suspect this bit's a typo (if not, some will be chuffed): Police had to cut free the two protesters who were kicked to the car park machine.

Cambridge United (H)
he'll do well to be back next season.

Cambridge United (H)
To be fair, I think that's one of our corner routines.

Brand Evatt
hooking Sheehan for Jerome was as baffling as it gets for me. Only way it made sense is if we were going to start lumping it to the two big lads up top. But we didn't.

I had a similar thing with "I beg your pardon ... I never promised you Osama Bin Laden". Can't hear the song any other way now.

Mike Carter
No doubt, but think he had serious trouble with the booze even when he was playing. Vague memory of reading comments from fellow pros who said he'd have had a great career if he looked after himself better. As it was it had pretty much fizzled out by the time he was 30. Shame really - suspect in the modern era his career and life would have gone in a very different direction.

Chris Thompson was a particularly tragic tale. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/10114335.lonely-death-ex-rovers-star-chris-thompson/ Phil Wilson was another who looked amazing in the relegation season but never really pushed on with us. Think he had a decent career at Huddersfield though.

Charlton (H)
I was getting a bit carried away there. We've (sort of, in a final nail in the coffin way) relegated them once vs them relegating us twice (bastards). If anyone's interested, the three matches were: 17 Apr 1971 Charlton Athletic v Bolton Wanderers L 4-1 League Division Two We were 4 points behind Charlton in 20th with 3 games remaining. This game sealed our relegation. Charlton stayed up in 20th. 14 May 1983 Charlton Athletic v Bolton Wanderers L 4-1 League Division Two Last game of the season. We were a point behind Charlton in 19th needing a win to stay up. 19 Apr 2016 Bolton Wanderers v Charlton Athletic D 0-0 League Championship We were adrift at the bottom, Charlton 1 place above us, 11 points from safety with 4 games to play. A bit academic, but the draw sealed their fate (not that it did us any good). Typically goals in this fixture - only five goalless games in 96 compared with 31 games where at least one team has scored 3 or more. Reckon we're due another 4-1. There've been 8 of them, 6 for us including last game at Burnden and two for them, both relegating us.

And in 1983. Think we've relegated them twice as well, and at least 2 of the relegating results were 4-1.

Mike Carter
Going through some of the youtube clips and saw Mike Carter looking like a future star in our relegation season. Remember him breaking through and thinking he was sensational (I was a kid), but then never living up to the early promise and dropping down the leagues. Googled him the other day to see how his career panned out post us. Shocked to find he'd died in 2018. I may be the only one who missed this, and a bit late for an RIP thread, but thought I'd share for anyone else as out of touch as me. Monday Quiz - if you can be arsed
There's a butchers in East Ardsley just before the M1. Used to have a sign in the window "last butchers before the M1". Correct, but never understood the relevance.

Take it that's aimed at my post? Bit of a leap if so. By the looks of it, new guy can do things our current strikers can't. What an asset to add to the mix if true. Not a dig at anyone - hopefully (as stated) he brings the best (or even more if you prefer) out of our other forwards. Happy days.

Transfer Gossip
Typical post from a Bristol Rovers forum: "My favourite Gas player in a long time. Good luck trotting along at Bolton, hopefully in the Championship in six months time!"

Transfer Gossip
I know you shouldn't trust highlights reels, but fuck me how exciting is that video of his goals and assists from last season. Scores screamers from outside the box with both feet, wins headers, scores one on ones, can dribble, cross, comes deep to link up play ... In all honesty, how many of those goals would we expect Dion to score? Here's hoping he hits the ground running and brings the best out of Dion / Vic. Looks a great signing this. * * apologies for the traditional wakey kiss of death

Politics
Not anymore - been withdrawn. I weaned off cigs with vapes. Then went from flavoured to tobacco flavoured to encourage me to give up. Now enjoy tobacco flavoured vapes. Need motivation / method to wean off the fuckers. Seems to do me more harm in terms of breathlessness and coughing than decades of smoking ever did. I looked up champix cos I thought I'd give it a go

Talented lad and interesting back story. Done a wide range of stuff - worth checking the Ren and Chinchilla stuff. Used to be in The Big Push - spent most of their time busking covers in Brighton but also did some original stuff. Big thing down there apparently - sold out a 2,000 capacity venue in their farewell gig. Not bad for a bunch of buskers.- Bradford City (H)
- Next manager
Must be the most Boltonian the club's been in donkey's years. Co-owner, manager, assistant, head of academy, couple of the youngsters who'll be around the first team squad this year ... and we've already had a Boltonian captaining the side this season. Liking Hill's reputation for playing good football and bringing through the youth according to Rochdale fans. Really positive move this, adds to the feel that it's the beginning of a new - and much brighter - era. - The Elite Posters Music Thread
