Just had a look at the old school house in Harwood and for 2 bed apartments now starting £1200 including fees. Who in their right mind is paying that here. One of its features ‘close to Manchester’ amazing.

Yup, 

We bought in little lever as you got much more for your money than doffcocker/smithless. 

Looked at a 250k house in doffcocker, and it had 2 bedrooms and a box room that barely fit a bed (they had a bed specially made). Garden was lovely though. 

Ended up in Little Lever as we saw a 5 bed, extended, conservatory (that's too hot or too cold) and nice garden, big 2 car drive.. for 10k less.  

The house we lived in before we payed 700 a month for, is now renting for 1050 allegedly.

whitefield are definitely mancs, primarily blue

radcliffe - top end - was bolton folk in the 70s, but its just infested now.  Reds, pinks and blues

I am, but the kids are at school in Canterbury so I'm going nowhere for a while I'm afraid. Although the youngest is at secondary in september so 6/7 years maybe - just in time for my 50s!

I see it a bit differently, I've been down here for 28 years now, and can't see that I'd ever want to move back North again. Once I've paid this mortgage off in a few years, then I could I suppose, move further up north and pocket a few quid, the aim ultimately though will be downsize slightly here, and have a couple of extra properties abroad (Spain and France) where I flit between them during the winter/colder months here in the UK (that I can rent/AirBnB when I'm not using them)

I often have this conversation, and it’s not about you, but is it better to own abroad or just rent, then you can move around the world, not having the overheads/hassle of owning?

That's a consideration definitely, and one I've thought about as I know somebody who does just that. Every winter, they clear off to Greece and rent somewhere for 5 or 6 months, whilst doing that, they rent out their UK property, which obviously generates far more than they're laying out

In the next few years, we'll, courtesy of Mrs Sweeps father, inherit properties abroad and we'd look to keep the one in Seville I think, but the French one could and probably will be sold

I agree, there is something surely very mundane about going back to the exact same place time and time again, as the World is a big place, with loads of different places to explore
