Lincoln (H)

Well here we go. The excitement builds for our first game. Can we build on 2 years of progress in this division and a good pre-season to state our claim for promotion.

First decision for Evatt will be whether to go with a number 10 behind 2 forwards - if he does CMG is the man.

But I think he’ll grow into the first 11 - he can make a difference next week coming from the bench.

Just 3 positions up for grabs then for me. I think Morley will pip Thomason, Adebeyejo will go up top with Charles and Iredale wil go LCB (if fit, if not Forrester did very well today.

                      Baxter

       Jones.     Santos.   Iredale

Dac.Cog.   Sheehan Morley.  Williams

                      Dempsey

            Charles.     Adebeyejo

The forum definitely has a different feel to it these days. There are a handful of prolific posters who tend to flood threads and have changed the mood of the place. I'd bet they don't know any Hudder

I can't remember if I've already posted this because I'm pissed. But just to put things into perspective - we were loaning players form Lincoln a few short years ago. The progress we've made sinc

Going further back, I wonder when we last sold 20k tickets for 1st match of season, below top division? Definitely not since 1977 as a minimum but I suspect longer.

Are you making a distinction between attendance and tickets sold?

if it’s tickets sold, the answer might be “never”

it’s all about two people having different opinions about something. Once upon a time a debate would ensue; one poster hoping to say something to convince the other poster to alter the way they see things or their level of expectation.

It seems these days, someone disagrees with an opinion and starts slinging insults about. Behaviour which will never lead to debate but will lead to two posters spending the rest of their time on here bickering and disagreeing with each others points of view.

Long-time posters seem to have attracted this strange behaviour from more recent posters and now, (at least where the long-serving have stayed around, many haven’t bothered to the detriment of the forum,) can post absolutely anything and will soon have two or three vultures circling and waiting to jump in to pour scorn. It all gets rather tedious, if we’re honest.

A divided society, I’m afraid. Probably down to “social” media, of which Twitter seems to be the template for what seems to be the norm of rudeness. I doubt that it will ever be recovered.

Just had a look. We never managed it outside the top division after the war.

1962 1st division. 1st home game v Burnley. 28,897

Right through the 70s our first home games were anything from 8,000 to 16,000.  Only 21,355 at first game back in division 1 v Bristol City in 1978.

Our support now, for the level we're at, is bloody excellent.

Good info, thanks. Yes it’s superb, and Sharon and the rest can take a bow for being instrumental in getting fans back, and getting new fans.

In mitigation for the crowds in the 70s etc, hardly any season tickets sold in those days for the terraces with no need to book your seat next to your mates. And definitely not as cheap as now, especially for kids. Crowds fluctuated far more from one game to the next depending on opposition, weather etc.

We're pretty much going to be averaging 20,000 as a minimum this season

Probs 18/19k on night matches, with some 24/25k+ in big games/family days

Things none of us couldn't imagine just a few years ago even in the Championship.

Really hope we go up this season and carry on the momentum!

No, by saying tickets sold I was counting anyone that turned up and/or bought a ticket, as we don’t get to see actual attendances.

How have I only just noticed Santos' penchant for physically assaulting goal scorers during their celebrations? 😂

Let’s debate this…

Get fucked!

See, debate over with, @gonzo now changed his mind and doesn’t think I’m a loser, he thinks I’m a piss-can who’ll gratefully accept the offer of a pint in NamPloy in an effort to show there was no hard feelings. I will, of course, accept his kind offer but secretly think he’s a cock but I won’t actually call him that in case it causes Ill feeling.

Or he spits in your beer 😁

That Bristol City first match of 78/79; there were more than 21,000 on. Even in those days, there were variances between attendance figures and actuality!

Not sure about that? Bristol City only had the far end of the embankment, the middle section was empty. Lever end only held 4,000 due to seating. Biggest crowd of the season, 32,000 against that shite from Stretford. Probably right in my old eyes.

What a glorious game that was.

Can’t remember last season, though!

It was, but not the best against them that season!

Best ever Christmas present though

So basically the crowds before all seater stadiums were under stated and since then, approx turn of century, they are over stated. So let’s forget making comparisons between the two, it’s all guesswork 😀 (I can confirm there was hardly anyone there v Darlington in 85 though)

It was the 3rd biggest although would have been more if Man Utd had been given a larger allocation. The 2nd biggest was Liverpool at the end of the season when they brought  a lot because they were chasing the title.Liverpool  were given  more of the Embankment. The biggest was the abandoned match against Everton.

Cheers mate. Reminded me of a 3-0 home win against Bournemouth with Amazing Jim at the helm for the first time in a league game. Let's hope we have the same end of season finishing position!

Some very busy people around when 7-8 mins (extra versus a rough average of added on time last year) is causing issues on their Saturday!

Lol.

Saturdays make no difference to me but the midweeks do, it seems over night roadworks must start at 10pm so the 7:45 kick offs mean we are through them on M62 , whereas 8:00 always seem to get caught ( especially when we lose 😂) , I was amazed last season the difference it made.

Spot on MickeyD, we’re all Wanderers fans and the whole point of the forum is for opinions which you’re free to agree or disagree with but if you disagree just say why instead of making some sarky comment or posting abuse. Sadly there are a handful on here who think because they’ve been on so long they somehow own the site and can attack at will instead of responding with their own points on the subject. It’s a bit sad really but they’ll never change.

I think you need to chill out a bit and not take stuff so personally.
