Port Vale (A)

Hoping this will be my first away of the season if I can get tickets, but away capacity is less than it used to be.  We'll be in the Bycars End, the Hamil Road now occupied by Vale fans.

Not sure what capacity of Bycars is but less than Hamil Rd so not likely to be enough to satisfy demand.

£25 in home end for this game so presume same for us.

Currently we're down to 10th

Definitely overthinking things during a game.

Well I was pleasantly surprised, really enjoyable atmosphere, very positive, and more evidence of normal folk than anything unsavoury.  For the record, I never suggested we had more knobheads than other clubs, just that the awayday experience is different to playing at home, and not everyone's cup of tea when with family or older folk etc.  Today was great, no complaints from what I saw and I've only got good things to say about our support.  Playing well and winning helps of course, but a great afternoon out, apart from walking through town before and after the game in the rain. The only positive of that place is I really appreciate where I live even more than I did, Burslem's a shit hole, thank god I am home.

Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻

Good atmosphere. One thing is at least we know we can trust the players on the fringes we have probably fielded the whole squad in 10 games which might stand us in good stead as the season goes on

Port Vale fans are great at booing anything and everything, but don't get behind their team.

IE said something about it being an intimidating place to come, it felt nothing like that.  Atmosphere wise, dead as a dodo from them.  Wierd to watch the game from the "home" end after being in the opposite end about 10 times since I first went in 83 when Caldwell scored the winner.  I've never seen us lose there, and the atmosphere has been crap in the home end every time, but I've seen them play away a lot over the years (not just at Bolton) and really get behind their team.  Good to see an old traditional ground still standing though, the social club at the front of the ground still there 40 years after I first had a pint in there.

Disagree. Probably his best league performance for us so far.

Yes no complaints, looked better than Vic to me, who has the touch of a not very good footballer (but occasionally scores in home games).  It stuck more with Dan, makes some odd choices of what to do when he has time to think, but good energy and decent leading of the line today.  Not as good as JDB when he came on, he's a different class and won virtually every challenge and played with his usual intelligence.  Jerome too, well played.

Just another kachunga works hard no end product, Charles needs help

The two subs held the ball up last 10 and took a lot of pressure off . the lack off being able to change the midfield in the second half could of cost us all 3 especially Dempsey kept giving the ball away in bad areas

Wierd we all see things differently, I criticised him last week but thought he was excellent today especially 2nd half keeping possession!

Our all-time record against Vale:

P42 W28 D11 L3

A shame we can't play them every week

I know this may sound like sacrilege to some, but currently Dan is better at holding up the ball and playing others in than Bod ATM. Ball is sticking to him and he's holding off defenders like a good 'un whereas Bod has struggled to do that both today and on Tuesday. Obviously Bod is the better finisher and more complete striker and Dan doesn't shoot enough, but there are phases of games when the other stuff - including Dan's superior workrate and target man skills - are needed, especially playing Evatt's way. Dan's improving and I can see why Evatt picks him in Vic's absence.

I always respect others opinions because we see things differently, but I'm watching a different game if you thought JDB struggled to hold the ball up today.  I didn't watch the reserves match on Tuesday but I know he was our best player for the last half hour v Posh.  Different class to any of our other strikers in terms of retaining possession and making the right decisions.

Unfortunately probably seen the 3 they won . Think they beat us twice one season one in fa cup

Just got back to Leeds. Anyone moaning about the performance of any players need to give their head a shake.

Totally dominant first half. Stood  up as they chucked everything at us second half.

Perhaps the main reason for that is that we're usually in the ascendancy, thus reducing the atmosphere!

Think if fans were in the ground Evatt would've gone after that 6-3 one.

Yes that’s the Covid one on ifollow yes would have been a tough time for him with crowds in .
think port vale have a record only team played every club in the football league

Really good first half, although they obviously got a bollocking at half time.

only thing being if we had got a second p, for me it would have been game over.

second half, backs to the wall and thought the defence coped superbly.

bit wasteful when we had chances to break.

all hopes of a second went  when dion went off.

overall, really good win, with 2 home games to come.
