Said to stepdaughter watching it, could have hooked TAA after an hour, dropped JB back (he was already doing so anyway), brought Gordon on and moved Foden in behind Kane for rest of game. Gordon's ball carrying ability would have been an outlet and Foden might have got more involved as the link to Kane.

Definitely agree with that. It's this on game management Southgate really struggles with. Just watches on as the momentum moves to the opposition

100% when it comes to fine detail & in game management I expect Southgate to come second best.. like he did last night after a decent first 30 minutes the game changed completely and he had no answer.

But against better opposition we wouldn't

See last Euro final

Maybe he'd have made different changes against better opposition? 🤷‍♂️

Well his track record suggests he wouldn't.

But we can live in hope 🙏

Maybe he's learned from that? Or maybe it's irrelevant? Maybe if he'd made the changes suggested above last night, we'd have conceded? 🤷‍♂️

His comments on over using energy in the first half are concerning.

It was a very odd comment. They're elite athletes who play high intensity football week in week out.

Think he's on to something. Need to let Novak Djokovic to stop running around as much in his early sets :)

So last night, having lost the initiative at 1-0, he brought on less worthy substitutes because the opposition wasn't all that ?????

We won. Wish Evatt had made the same awful mistakes a month ago.

By the skin of our teeth & having a number of players under-perform.

But you're actually suggesting he brought on lesser subs because the opposition wasn’t up to much. Stunning.

Definitely need someone who actually knows how to play midfield alongside Rice.

Mainoo is quality on the ball and is dead calm but hasn't quite got the legs getting back and can get overran. Think Southgate see's him further up the field as a alternative. Gallagher has the legs but can be a headless chicken at times.

How good is this Wharton lad don't think I've seen him play?

I'm not suggesting anything. You're suggesting he got it badly wrong, even though we won. 🤷‍♂️

Whilst we didn't play particularly well, I'd not say we won it by the "skin of our teeth".  Pickford had one save to make, from distance, which was pretty routine.

The second half we were poor.

THIS is what you were suggesting.

100% bizarre.

That's not a suggestion, it's a rhetorical question. Maybe he wouldn't? 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, we won.

So you think that because we won it's carry on regardless

You can learn things from achieving a goal and still think things could have been done better

Think people are just concerned we and he showed similar traits last night that have let us down in past.

On a brighter note Rice was outstanding and so was Bowen when he came on.

I don't disagree.  A better team might well have deprived us of the win ... but we didn't win by the skin of our teeth.
