Haven't even heard of the Sunday night headliner, SZA 

Or the act before them, Burna Boy

Remember watching this live 20 years ago.

Thought it was ace then and still do now. Love the energy.

Same as any other specific genre really.

There’s only The Selecter, Fatboy Slim, Nile Rodgers and Gary Numan that I’d go out of my way to watch

But I’ll plough through it like every year as there’ll be a few that surprise me - both those that have never really appealed and those I’ve never heard of

There are some crossovers with the Aussie Pub Punk scene - but the best generally rise to the top. The last Sniffers album was a big step forward from just the high adrenaline rush. Big Dreams probably being the best example. But also they have been pushed because she's an amazing front woman.

Saw the Chats support Queens of the Stone Age. Smoko is a decent tune.

But loud, unpretentious punk with a communal attitude between fans and bands will always be loved.

 

Pink Patheress is playing - she went to my daughter's school, Beabadoobee if you want to see why the kids today love the 90s, Father John Misty - latest album is a belter, and I've just seen GOAT - they are totally bonkers and brilliant and The Big Moon are great. Had this song on repeat a few years back from the Here is Everything album

when I hear "Pub Rock" it reminds me of Nick Cave doing Disco 2000

 

when I was looking for that, I found out that he also did this version which I'd not heard before

 

 

Pub Rock in the UK is more like that odd gap between punk and HM. Things like Eddie and the Hot Rods and Dr Feelgood.

Cave himself and The Boys Next Door sort of came from that Ossie DIY scene.

By God there's some shite in that lot. 

It's like one of those Butlins 90's reunion festivals they have.

Sure there will be a few surprises as there always is - but there's not much on there that I'd be hankering after. Even the dance music stages are meh!

Nah there's loads of decent acts on Bob Vlyan, Brian Jonestown Massacre, as I've said the amazing TV on the Radio, Father John Misty, Black Country New Road, the fucking Osees!, English Teacher (stunning album) Japanese Breakfast, Kae Tempest, PP Arnold, Terrorvision (😁) Bragg (as always) Lambrini Girls, Du Blonde and not huge amounts of clashes. I wouldn't say it's as good as last year but TV, Osees, BCNR and English Teacher certainly make it worth it alone. Plus the Plup special guest slot.

If folk.can - go and see Du Blonde, one of my favourite surprises of last year - great little album.

I'm more interested in Alfred's Toupee, The Jizz Honey Collective, Spilled Stool Sample, and Stasis Parrot.

None of what you have suggested are wetting my whistle. Might watch Pulp out of that lot for old times sake - but you'd probably find me in the stone circle on acid with some hippies given that selection 😉

There's a reason we haven't heard of half of the acts and its because we don't listen to radio 1 anymore.
