Pantomime Villains

Think there's only John Aldridge who comes close to James McClean in the pantomime villain stakes.

God I hated that fucker as a yoof.

Proper had one over on us.

Can't think of many more hated so much by an entire fan base who revelled in it as much as those two.

They give/gave as good as they got thats for certain.

Any more we had proper needle with?

Cant think of too many that havent been mentioned. The lad who did Andy Walker forget his name.

Chris Malkin - Made Crouch look like Ivan Drago.

And Colin Bastard Cooper to use his full name.

Des Lyttle... I think

And I'm not sure I remember anyone getting more grief than Jeff Chandler on his return to Burnden.

I was going to mention Wood - always got grief for crippling Reid. Ball used to get cries of "hello Alan" ringing round in the highest pitch voice anyone could manage.

Vinny Jones played the panto villain at Burnden (league cup?) but it was genuine banter and mutual round of applause at the end.

I once went to Forest v Wimbeldon when the Crazy Gang was in its prime, the whole Trent End singing 'Vinnie Jones you're a wanker' as he jogged into penalty area, he just stop and looked arround him and gave it the 'what me ?' Reaction, everyone just laughed and applauded him

Remember Pearce getting 'you lost the World Cup' when we played them in about 1991. 5 years later when he took a penalty in euros realised what cunts we were 😂

Crouch getting called 'Freeeeakkk' everytime he touched ball will always make me laugh though.

One of those urban myths.

I was close to the players where I was stood and Lyttle didn't touch him.

His studs seemed to grip the turf, and his knee "went".

The story will never change though- seems embedded in folk-lore!

Agrees. Warhurst and Holdsworth sent off 4 minutes apart trying to Criple Savage. I think Savgae tried to cripple Hendry after 30 seconds which should have been a straight red. Savage brought off staright after Holdsworths red card for his own protection, our players would have carried on getting sent off and crowd had turned big time on Savage. I think Mickey Adams said after the game he had to take him off after him and Allardyce exchanged some words. If I remember correctly both Adams and Allardyce were wired up to Heart monitors for an ITV documentry about premier league managers and the stress during a game. They couldn't have chose a better game. I rememebr Ricketts scoring with the last second of the game and everyone going ballistic. Great match, except for Savage and Mike Riley who depised us anyway.

Bassett wasn’t it? Then they discovered an irregular heartbeat so he retired?

 Dean Kiely for Charlton

Ffjortoft for Swindon seem familiar

Waddle playing up to the crowd for Bradford

Not so much a panto villains but Wenger's arsenal players used to get in a right strop playing at our place. Terry Henry threw a particularly memorable one after shanking the ball into the stand.

Ahh, where would we be without folk-lore.

Pedro Richards, a black (unusual in the 70's) full back at Notts County, did Reid for his second long injury spell.

I don't recall it being held personally against him but recalling easily him close to 50 years later suggests something.

Paddy Kenny at Sheff Utd

Story came out in the week leading up to the match that he'd been in a fight in a curry house with his mate as he found out that his mate had been shagging his wife

He's in the goal in front of the away end and loads of chants of "Kenny's wife is a slag" etc he turns around and says "yeah I know and you're all fucking welcome to her"

Frédéric Kanouté, after being subbed and having a little tantrum hoofed the drinks carrier that then stuck to his foot, the Reebok was in uproar pissing themselves !!! 🤣🤣🤣

One of the funniest moments at the bok ever.

Does Mark Lawrenson count? Could also be another example of the Mandela Effect - I was convinced he had his tache shaved off in the centre circle at The Reebok when he lost his bet and we stayed up in 2002, but I can't find any record of it.

Yeah, I was just certain it happened at our place. I was probably off my tits at the time and imagined it.

And he never grew it back because his missus had never liked it, and wouldn’t let him.

Honestly you could be right. Just have no recollection of it. My memory says it was suggested but never happened
