Barrow Friendly

Somehow been persuaded to go. Regretting it now.

Barrow, Marbella or Edinburgh? Wrong choice.

Simons looks good, and Warren looks to have something about him

Simons' looks a bit of a teammates dream with his composure and passing, our pacey wingers and him could be a good combination, looks they type who'll always be looking for the ball.

Think it’s a question of who we pair with him. Plenty of competition for those 2 spots!

I still think our wide options look very lightweight. Be nice to have one with a bit of strength as I fear we may get bullied a lot especially away from home. It’s nice to have some pace in the side though.

Looked a lot better when the subs happened, like the look of Taylor marauding forward - big, strong and a bit of pace too

Warren looks like he as pushed himself in front of the two B team strikers already in the pecking order

The fact he was playing as low down as he was is a shocker, someone at Ipswich Town made a mistake at 14.

Highlight of that was Simons. Strong, commanding presence and superb crossfield passes. Upgrade on sheehan and Morley. Need to keep him fit.

Based on that and the fact santos left us (first goalscorer bet each week) ...i think my fiver bet will be going on Simons to score from outside the box.

Gonna be some steak suppers this season

Agreed. Also like the look of Taylor.

Craig north comments are better than the game

Yes, though that doesn't surprise me.

I know a few thought we'd loan him out or put him in the stiffs, but I felt from SS comments that perhaps he'd be there or thereabouts.

Anyway, the midfield two that finished the game looked very solid- essential if we're going with 2 proper wingers.

We seem more physical and stronger all over.

Brighton lad has lots of ability and pace, hope he can match it with end product.

Another practice game under their belts.

It did amuse me that

He's a solid specimen in the middle for sure.

Warren is taller than I imagined he would be.

More than happy with Conway/Taylor on the left....TSL big improvement on either Baxter or Southwood

Simons looks pure class, it is him and another......Wingers add pace but can be frustrating

Mcatee seems fitter as does Randall. Offered nothing up front, Schumacher as well as every man and his dog knows we are weak ip top.  If we have to get shot of three or four to bring two forwards in Crack on.

I watched about 20 minutes of 2nd half and that stood out to me too.  Looks like he owns the middle of the park and sprayed a few nice passes (nothing that Sheehan, Morley and Tomo don't do to be fair).  But good first impressions.  Wingers look tricky.

Against some of the big, physical teams,  especially away, that midfield pairing would give me more confidence of competing toe to toe.

OK, against teams that sit back and concede possession then it may be different, but even then having a plethora of fancy Dan types doesn't necessarily produce scintillating football neither.

Good to have the options.

Still on

Good run out in the main against a physical Barrow team. Only areas of concern for me in the squad as it stands:

-right back - we can't be having Tutu as the only back up to Cogley. He's far too weak, and tbh I'd like a stronger option than Cogley for some games (memories of Humphreys bullying him are too recent)

-the number 10 role in this 4231 - I'm not convinced by either Randall or McAtee

-striker - I'm impressed with Warren, but with Dalby out for a period it shows we need one more (the youth lads need a season on loan really)

Otherwise some areas are very well stocked (centre backs, Left back, midfielders and wingers) and ready for next season, so promising at this stage

Schumacher saying post-match that Taylor is "developing as a left-back for us"

Been really impressed with this lad, so far.

His distribution has been superb and he has a calmness about him.

Based very much on the second half last night and play from last year, the biggest thing we are still missing is a focus for the attack , clearly Daley been bought in to do that job, but we need cover, young lad ran about a lot but is still learning.

GT is are only midfielder who is likely to break the lines and forward to help the forwards. I did like Simons though looks a lot more physical that what we have had.

Generally I am not a fan of only 2 in midfield so 4 2 3 1 worries me , just think in the division average teams can pack midfield and stop you playing.

But overall there are clear signs that we are tackling some of the issues from previous years.

Craig North drops 2p coins down his radiator to play Tipping Point.

Fuck me :D

That pass by Sheehan to CMG just after the goal..... <drools>

still think we had 2 goal line clearances

obvs, its not all on him and credit for whoever kept em out, but still need to tighten up

They were physically bigger and stronger than us First half and both our full backs allowed too many crosses in. Tutu not good enough defensively to be a RB. Conway still learning but the lad has a lovely left foot and would have been ideal as a LWB.

Second half the same team moved the ball much quicker for 15 minutes before the replacement team dominated the last 30 minutes.  Trialist never had a save to test him.

Centre of defence, midfield and wing look covered unless others go. Still need 3 more, cover at RB and probably LB plus a another forward.

It was ridiculously cold for a Tuesday night in July.
