Bolton Wanderers Football Club unequivocally condemns the alleged racist abuse directed towards a Preston North End player during the warm-up at today’s game.

We extend our full support to the affected player. Such behaviour has no place in football or society; it stands in direct opposition to the values of respect and inclusion our club upholds.

We can confirm that the individual was removed from the Toughsheet Community Stadium following the report prior to kick-off, with the club committed to supporting any resulting investigation whilst cooperating fully with Preston North End and all relevant authorities, including Greater Manchester Police.

Individuals found responsible for this abhorrent conduct will face the strongest possible sanctions.

We urge any supporters who witnessed the events to contact us confidentially via One Wanderers. You can do this by texting 07542850902 or emailing safeguarding@bwfc.co.uk.

We are committed to eradicating discrimination from our sport.

It was a fucking farce. We got there in the queue at 2:30. In just after 3:10. Only 2 turnstiles open at first for North Stand, but at least q was moving.

The q started at turnstiles nearest west stand and was back to near club shop.

The grandly names Turnstile Manager started telling people near the back to go round the Queue to use the turnstiles which basically caused a bottle neck.

They ended up opening up the extra bit of the stand as people did not have seats. At half time as the end block was shut you could only use the toilets near the west stand.

@Horwich was on the gates so assume he was to blame

I was in North Lower, fortunately got in in time for KO but it was a complete shit show and an embarrassing episode for the club. 20 mins into the game folk still stumbling around trying to find seats, folk sitting in the wrong ones, only one bar open with hardly any stock at 2.50.

A bit of a bollock dropped all ways round

Conway did really well and he won’t come up against much tougher physical players like Offiah and Small every week. Last seasons loan looks like it’s really benefitted him.

I only saw the second half but he looked excellent. It's great having a big full back who doesn't look like he's going to get bullied and he still good on the ball. Taylor will be back soon also, so we're good there.

Right back is where we need a signing I reckon. If Cogley gets injured we can't be playing Tutu. That's not having a dig at him but he's not a full back, he should be in competition with the other wingers and must be frustrated that his new role seems to be back up full back.

Absolutely a ban, but life? You don’t get life for GBH, rape and murder. I’m not condoning anything but words, no matter how vile, should not attract a tougher penalty than such crimes.

Mentioned something in the Hibs post, glad to see that we are sorting this out. One less fool.

On the game, I thought we did really well and enjoyed what I saw. Hard going first half, we struggled to keep hold of the ball and had a fair amount of defending to do but did it largely well, looked pretty solid.

TSL is a good'un, what he did have to do he did well and his distribution confident and effective.

Second half we were great, as soon as we upped it a bit and asked them a few questions, even at set pieces, PNE looked wobbly, albeit they did make a couple of decent chances of their own.

SS has done really well in a matter of weeks to remodel us into a side that plays with width and pace, gets in behind defences and causes them problems. Yes, PNE are poor and won't be out of the bottom six all season, but we deserved the win in the end and there was a lot to like.

Toal and Johnston looked better defensively, the wingers were a huge handful, McAtee looked fitter and worked harder, and Conway passed his test against a decent winger / wing back combo on his side. Whatever his tackling and covering ability he has the asset of reading the game well, intercepting then springing us into attack, the 2nd goal a case in point.

Plenty to be encouraged and positive about 👍

I don't think a life ban from a football ground equates to a tougher penalty than a 20 year stretch for murder

I don’t want to detract from the football, which has the seen the conclusion of a very positive pre season.

However, it’s a question of proportionality. If those who commit such heinous crimes can be trusted to resume normal life after an appropriate period of punishment, surely  the same opportunity should be extended to others?

Anyway, I’ll leave it there.

Bolton,  and indeed any club, don't want fans in the ground who think it's ok to shout racist abuse at footballers warmning up

you wouldn't get sent down for life for nutting a member of the public randomly, but if you ran on the the pitch and nutted a player, you aren't being let back in again

or if you went in a pub, and racially abused a barman, don't expect to be let back in that pub again, even if the barman laughs

and that, is the end of that

they can still watch the games on firesticks like the rest of the utter scum of the world, it's not like they're missing out on the actual football, they can still probably go to away games or football games elsewhere

anyway, I didn't say they shoud be banned for life, I'm not arsed if they but if needs to be a good while

if we're comparing to prison sentances, I'd go with more a community service type approach

I'd make him a boot shine boy and clean the boots of the black players  (whilst they are still wearing them) for 2 years before and after training, and if he does that, he can still come to the game

Decent performance against a team from championship. Really like the look of both the new wingers. Could be big players for us this season.

Looking forward to the new season starting now.

Really impressed with Cozier-Duberry and JDC down the right side. Will terrorise many a league 1 side.

Tough first half for Johnstone and Conway. Better second half, especially the latter. Much more attacking and dangerous after the substitutions - seemed like we actually wanted to play forwards, quickly.

McAtee was bobbins.

Enjoyed 1877 suite for £48. At full price I’d feel short changed.

Perhaps without a very effective winger on our left in the first half, it allowed Preston a bit more freedom to attack down that side, and cause difficulties.

Something that we will no doubt come up against on occasions, when these speed merchants are injured, or having an off day.

A quick shift in approach and then personnel turned it in our favour.

From what I saw, Conway once again showed quality with the ball, and some height/strength to his benefit without it.

Should he continue his development, I can see him being another one sold on for good money in a year or two.

Another thing I enjoyed today was a couple of times we took quick ish free kicks to the wide players and got PNE on the back foot, which after years of watching us take ages to do simple things so the opposition defence was set was refreshing

Still think we have a long way to go but the fact we looked ‘solid’ even without the two new lads in centre mid is promising

I noticed that, and how we looked to quickly play balls over and round their full backs, getting them turning and on the back foot.

Second goal was based on a great interception by Conway, quick forward passes to get it to Gale, he did well with the pull back, good finish.

We also played some quick cross field balls to switch play, young Lawrence with one first half, Gale in second half. Was good to watch

We were, though without a decent striker or much forward running from midfield, we were a bit blunt.

Second winger helped.

From the PNE site:

Was outside the stadium heading to Middlebrook, and saw the guy. He proudly confessed to someone, loudly:

“I got kicked out before it started me, all because I called a Preston player a fucking black monkey”.

 Micropenis that nobody will miss.
