Sheffield Wednesday (H) - League Cup Round 1

tickets on sale for this, so will presume it's going ahead, will wait till day or day itself before till I get tickets though, just in case

but looking forward to it as we should be able to smash them

be interesting to see how many they bring, wouldn't surprise me if they filled the south stand given the chance, though they've initally been given 3,700 at £10/£5 a pop

I'm glad it wasn't just me that thought we had some decent attacking moments, I thought I'd dreamt it. Negativity on here is unbelievable, you'd think we were bottom of the league in November not

  • Pretty much my thoughts, decent night in all. Went on my tod, expected nothing, sat next to this sound woman from the States (small handful) who was over with her kid for some tournament. Enjoyed a pa

Most comments I heard coming away was that it was enjoyable, entertaining and a proper cup tie!  (and that the keeper was crap). £10 for that (and no queues getting away!) compared to about £30 v

You'll be able to get a ticket on the night though, from T/O.  Maybe it will be similar to the PNE friendly (I wasn't there) with relatively big queues if it involves opening up blocks currently not available.

Was going to say the same re PNE game, hopefully club has better contingency plans in place. Remember 4 extra turnstile operators at £20 per hour for 2 hours only costs £160 !

Only the East stand. Will change if there’s a late rush of tickets, but I can’t see it.

That's very tinpot and sets a tone from the club saying "nobody's interested in this game".  Its a good way to discourage folk from going, eg those undecided who might want to sit somewhere other than ESL.

Plenty games last night had all or most stands open - Boro, Plymouth, Pompey, Blackburn, WBA.  Not sure why we take not opening stands to such extremes, surely just shutting upper tiers would be a decent compromise.

There'll be a lot of changes & it's impossible to predict who but i'd like to see Inwood, Erhahon & Warren start & give Gale & McAtee plenty time on the pitch.

& if they play kids, we know from experience that they can start brightly but run out of steam. Be patient.

As we know all too well, it all ends in tiers.

I guess we'll know how many we've sold

Then factor in staffing, electricity costs, etc.

Look at the ticket map and see how few we have sold - its the support tonight that's tinpot- not the club - and no doudt there is a million and one reasons why our fan base doesnt want to go tonight for a game against a championship side who are bringing 3k fans with them

Just seen.....apparently the draw for the next round is going to be made before tonight's games are played. What absolute bollocks that is.

if the fans bought tickets then the stands would open.

I'm at a gig tonight so no me or my dad, everyone else not going will likely have a reason even as simple as can't be arsed.

the club not selling tickets anywhere but the ESL isnt the reason for low turn out.

Think SSA will get a run out too.

I am not going tonight, none of our 5 could be arse driving over for it.

No one would be worried about the size of our support if Weds were not bringing so many.

how much are we chargin the poor souls from wednesday? hopefully no more than 10 bones?

Can't be arsed driving over for this. Out.

They'll be weighing up if more than 16 fans are likely to use the extra turnstiles, or bollocks to it they can miss 10 minutes of the match instead!

Yeah, just bought a ticket, I'm the only one of our group of 7 fairly regulars.  I decided to go in ESL for this one.

The amount of walk-ups at the PNE really surprised the club to be honest; however the North Stand was the contingency

I get all that but we never used to, I've been to pre-season friendlies not that long ago with 3k on with 3 stands open for home fans.  At Burnden there'd be 1,500 on for a Lancashire cup match and every terrace and seated area was open!

I'm not disagreeing with that but IMO the attitude of the club is/was that nobody's interested, and that sets a tone - if everyone expects its going to be dead from the day the draw is made, they are less likely to go.

The ticket map shows fans that are happy to squeeze into ESL, those that want to sit in North or West stand with maybe a bit of room near them (my elderly neighbours who've been going for 60 years for eg), aren't buying - amongst fans with other valid reasons as you say.

Hence the use of the word ‘better’

2 turnstiles was inadequate.

There could be less home fans tonight than the PNE friendly .

I honestly don't care if there's 2k of us there or 10k, it was more that fans don't have a choice where to sit, for no great reason, when most other clubs aren't placing such restrictions.  A small knock on effect will be a lower turn out than we would have got with 3 sides open.
