When was the last time McAtee got a scoring opportunity that involved him heading it into the net and he fluffed it? For that matter, when was the last time anyone set him up with a good chance of any description in the box?

Maybe it’s me but apart from a shot he took on from 30 yds I can’t remember any of the chances he’s fluffed and or these alleged headers he’s apparently muffing every game.

TBF I often can’t remember why I came into the kitchen though.

Did you not see the chance in the second half v Stockport? He was to the left of the penalty spot, with a lot of time, but blazed it high and wide and over our heads in the away end.

Skied a really good chance at Stockport.

Genuine question,  what position did he play on Wednesday?

A number 10! 🤣

SS has been playing him from the start  in his so called favoured position. This supporting striker/inside forward role is a key role in the 4-2-3-1 formation we’ve been playing, but he’s certainly not hit any kind of form yet. Randall looked better there last Saturday.

But on the two occasions he has started there, he’s ended up, after the sub switches, moving to the number 9/main striker role where he’s been completely ineffective.

This is why we need another striker or Dalby back quickly because there is no decent alternative to Burstow at the moment.

He was most effective last season as attacking midfield,

but he's meant to be (as you say) a second striker / 10 position.

SS must see something in him, he's brutal enough to tell players they're not wanted so must be something.

We 100% paid over the odds though (or seems that way atm), I'm hoping he comes good and becomes a club legend.

There is time yet!

He reportedly told him to get into better shape- which he has- but there doesn't seem to be any improvement.

SS could cut his losses and ship him out.

I don't think he will though.

I know Transfermarkt shouldn't be taken as gospel, a bit like a car valuation on Motorway, but McAtee's valuation has never been more than half of what we reportedly paid for him. The fee's not his fault of course, only what Evatt and our owners were happy to cough up to Luton.

After Evatt's departure, JD didn't play him and SS didn't initially start him either.  SS hasn't binned him off yet, though I suspect at least a couple of frank conversations have been had with him, one in SS's first few weeks and another over the Summer. There's been some response in terms of knuckling down to the fitness side of things but I do think though that Randall has put himself in front of him for the no10 spot.

Sure I saw it. And since then,  several players have missed the target when they’ve had chances including ACD but their heading ability isn’t brought into question and they don’t get pilloried at every opportunity.

I mean I get the dislike of McAtee as a person - he comes across as a cocky dickhead with a big ego - maybe it’s because of that that folk are more inclined to get on his case? And he isn’t in good form ATM which isn’t helping his PR - but maybe if he banged in a goal or two the petulant git might get a break?

As long as the guy best placed to see what he can do ( Schumacher) backs him, so will I as he’s the best we have to do that job right now. Obviously that can change.

I don't think its his failure to score headers that's the issue.  He scored one at Bristol Rovers and assisted Tomo's goal v Brum with a header.  If a cross came to him unmarked on the penalty spot, I'm sure he'd at least make the keeper work.  Its the open play stuff, near the halfway line etc, when the ball is played upto him and we need a flick on or some strength to hold it up.  Its like taking candy from a baby for the oppo CB or midfielder.

When we signed him, bearing in mind his physique and reputation and the fact that he was an "upgrade" on JDB etc, that he'd be able to head a ball.  A big let down in that respect, but IE has to take the blame for  making an already "weak" team even weaker.  And that was before he signed Etete!

He's definitely a funny one McAtee

You know he's capable

But for every good game he has two bad ones

He basically scores or he doesn't

And when he doesn't, your left thinking he's a bit shit because he's missed a sitter or just waddled around moaning

My Grimsby mate loves him, but that was at National and League two level

Against Plymouth our second goal was brilliant and what can get missed is the run Burstow made to create space. Later in half when McAtee was on we got on down the right, ball pulled back and McAtee was just stood hardly moving.

Decent forwards play a role in creating goals he seems to want it on a plate. I think the main reason people get frustrated with him is that he always seemed a total pest when up against us.

TBF he is clearly devoid of confidence at the moment, hopefully something sparks today and we see the player we always seemed to play against

2 window transfer embargo and 12 point deduction presumably for this season due to the date

Or, get bought at a basement price by a wealthy someone who then chucks money at it & negotiates debt repayments at x/£, embargoes are lifted and then a Phoenix club emerges.

Probably still a relegation but not the depths we ended up at. Barry Bannon can't do it all by himself.

No doubt they'll get relegated but yes, I can see them being an attractive proposition for let's say, an American consortium including some hedge fund people and a token famous sports person to be the face of it.

The stadium needs serious modernisation, as it's a fuckin shithole but those costs can be offset by the discounted purchase price and paying suppliers 20p in the Pound.

The immediate issue they have now, are ongoing player wages, as the administrators will look to negotiate payments due to the players and they could have (another) exodus

I wondered if Danny Rohl might try to sign Bannan for Rangers in January, but apparently he's a big Celtic fan so presumably that's not allowed even though it would be a great move for both.

£1m is peanuts.

The chairman just stopped covering the outgoings and losses when he received death threats.

Reckon that Texla mon will get them.

Any of their players worth a look at come Christmas, if we're looking better set?
