The day before we left our son’s house in Sydney, he had a toilet blockage. Nothing messy, just slow draining after flushing. I said I’d sort it, just need the right tool. Off I went to the Mitre 10 s

I'll start you off with painting walls in your house.

I needed to paint some walls in advance of getting the house on the market and with trade being so quiet of late, cashflow not being great and not knowing any decorators who'd do it as a favour or for a discount off a holiday, I thought I'd have a go myself.

Jesus H Fucking Christ, it looks like Harvey Price has done it.

Never again.

If you can piss you can paint

Pretend you’re Harvey Price and you won’t notice how bad it is.

It's really easy if you have two things, the right kit (not just a shitty roller and brush from B&M's) and patience to prep and do it right.

I have neither of those things so I try to avoid decorating wherever possible.

Get a pole for your roller. Game changer

Try lime washing... got let down so decided to do it myself... never ending, 4 coats at least, even got a cherry picker in to do the gable end... took 2 months to get my back right.

Parallel parking... did a blinder today, got out of the car, looked back to admire my work and walked into a lamp-post

Reminded me of a few years ago. Lass at work was going on about how her boyfriend was helping her with the various requirements. "He's  really good at parallel parking" she says innocently. Cue various guffaws from the lads there.

"Has he done reversing round the corner yet?" says I. Now I do get a dirty look as the penny drops.

I've got half decent at it over the years. I used to rush to get it done as quickly as possible, and it always looked shit. Preparation and patience are key. Probably spend more time masking and sanding than actually painting nowadays. Also, 1 coat is NEVER enough no matter what background you're covering, even if the paint describes itself as such. Used to dread it, but I've got a freshly plastered bedroom to do this weekend, and I'm actually looking forward to the peace and quiet (with snooker on in the background).

😂😂😂😂

I've discovered Dulux Satinwod...  next to no prep, covers well , dries quick and you clean your brushes in soapy water... if it doesnt move I paint it at the moment 😆

Bollocks too painting I struggle to getting a duvet cover on.

Painting is one thing but wallpapering is a whole different kettle of fish.

Wallpapering isn't too bad if you take your time either. Plastering is my achilles heel. Tried it a few times and always had to pay someone to fix my fuck up. Never again.

I was always told don’t bother- you’re shit

Cheers dad

The missus did most the DIY. I don’t have the patience or dexterity. If I’m painting, I’m hitting the big space. She takes over in the corners. I’m then in the kitchen creating magic like a good little bitch. Fix her a good martini when she’s ready
