Politics - Part 2

Kemi Badenoch doesn’t really need to speak in public more than once a month and she’ll do ok. In that respect, keeping her head down is proving very effective.

Sniping from the sidelines and criticising everyone clearly has merit. 🙃

This is part 2 of the Politics discussion.

Probably a fair summary at this point - but he united the party enough to make them electable again, and that was no mean feat.

True enough. He had a lot to do after the Corbyn years and he did it so yeah fair play to him

I didn't have a beer with him, but he did come across as decent, until I got home and realised he lied to me personally.

After bullshitting in writing.

Classic example of someone prepared to do and say whatever it takes to get the top gig.

He's far from the first and certainly won't be the last. Just another self serving twat on the road to power.

For all his faults, I don't think Starmer was quite of that ilk. Just weak and a poor PM.

What happened mate? I'm intrigued.

He's brought this up before, and claims he can't go into any more detail for some reason.

A couple of facts.

In 2019 10,269,051 People voted Labour (Corbyn)

In 2024 9,708,816 People voted Labour (Starmer)

Labour got in because of the collapse of the Conservative vote.

And?

Quite.

But one statistic doesn't tell a story as to how or why such a statistic came about.

I for one would never vote for a party with a leader like Corbyn, the same applies with Farage at the other end of the spectrum.

Oh for a boring, decent (mostly) and competent small c conservative party we used to have, Boris completely fucked the party.

Brexit fucked the Tories. Boris was just the most popular clown after everyone with an ounce of sense had been fucked off, so he was promoted to Ring Master.

Replacing Starmer with Burnham is like the BBC replacing Jimmy Saville with Gary Glitter.

on the one hand, 2019 was 32.1% of the vote and 2019 was 33.7%

in 2017, 12.8M voted Corbyn with 40% of the vote

so it's been downhil since then

Only 36% of eligible people voted for Brexit. Democracy manifest, so to speak.

Yep and only 33% who could be bothered to, voted for this Labour government. With a turnout of only 60% (2nd lowest since 2018) I’d guess only around 20%ish of eligible voters voted Labour. It just makes a mockery of Starmer’s constant claims that they had a huge mandate.

Yes it’s the peculiarity of our voting system but the huge majority gave them a false sense of infallibility. IMO.

If Reform get in with similar numbers I doubt Farage would be humble and claim he wasn’t really there on merit.

A massive majority is a massive majority. It’s how democracy in Britain works and this seems to be lost on too many people at the minute.

Yes you’re right. If you look at the current polls, they all show Reform with a good lead. It doesn’t mean they will get a large enough majority to form a government without a coalition though. A lot can happen in 3 years. If we get that far.

Similar with the latest by-election.

Why 40% of folk can't be bothered is a mystery.

Not on here mate.

I do have some "receipts" though. 😀

apathy, I'd have thought, and the realisation that no matter who they vote in, it'll make little or no difference, as they're all a bunch of nobbers 😉

Another example of the internet being forever. 😀

I don’t believe that we needed a General Election then, or now, by the way.

I've seen the same 'joke' made in various places over the past 24 hours.

It's exactly this kind of shite we need to move away from.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was witty in some way.

I suppose it depends if AB wants to go in a different direction to the manifesto last time round.

Then again, there have been changes to and new policies that weren't on the manifesto anyway.

Inevitable that some things have to change, as world events do, but doing some unannounced things shortly after being elected isn't a great look!

I'm not sure the appetite is there for one at the moment, but that could benefit AB as he gets his "new manager" bounce.

Even Ferrari on LBC who usually spends his time rimming Farage asked him about the £5m this morning. He does get rather flustered does thin skinned Nigel.
