He was pretty shameless in abandoning election pledge after election pledge after winning the votes of people who supported them, but it did subsequently win him and the party a general election

But one statistic doesn't tell a story as to how or why such a statistic came about.

I for one would never vote for a party with a leader like Corbyn, the same applies with Farage at the other end of the spectrum.

Oh for a boring, decent (mostly) and competent small c conservative party we used to have, Boris completely fucked the party.

on the one hand, 2019 was 32.1% of the vote and 2019 was 33.7%

in 2017, 12.8M voted Corbyn with 40% of the vote

so it's been downhil since then

Yep and only 33% who could be bothered to, voted for this Labour government. With a turnout of only 60% (2nd lowest since 2018) I’d guess only around 20%ish of eligible voters voted Labour. It just makes a mockery of Starmer’s constant claims that they had a huge mandate.

Yes it’s the peculiarity of our voting system but the huge majority gave them a false sense of infallibility. IMO.

If Reform get in with similar numbers I doubt Farage would be humble and claim he wasn’t really there on merit.

A massive majority is a massive majority. It’s how democracy in Britain works and this seems to be lost on too many people at the minute.

Yes you’re right. If you look at the current polls, they all show Reform with a good lead. It doesn’t mean they will get a large enough majority to form a government without a coalition though. A lot can happen in 3 years. If we get that far.

Then again, there have been changes to and new policies that weren't on the manifesto anyway.
