Politics - Part 2

Kemi Badenoch doesn’t really need to speak in public more than once a month and she’ll do ok. In that respect, keeping her head down is proving very effective.

Sniping from the sidelines and criticising everyone clearly has merit. 🙃

This is part 2 of the Politics discussion.

I don't - and none of should - accept that.

We are much better. Today has shown that with Reform's disgrace

I agree but I sometimes can't help feeling that way.

In my view, it's our democratic system that needs tweaking somehow, Burnham's ideas definitley have mileage and should be supported

Why would the people of Clacton vote for any of the main parties that have made their town ‘the arse end of the country’ ? Whatever you think of Reform you can not blame them for the way some areas of the country have fallen miles behind others. For people in those areas a protest vote is totally understandable.

You completely missed my point.

They HAVE more than any other Parliamentary constituency in the UK (apart from the Brighton seat held by the Greens for a number of years) voted for a party that has not been "any of the main parties"

(btw I've not referred to Clacton as the "arse end of the country").

It's not benefitted them as it?

Why then continue to vote for 'that' party that they mostly have (ie UKIP/Reform), why not vote for another party minority 'fringe' party instead or even not vote at all?

Yes, I understand that the political party's elected to national government will have the greatest effect on ALL constituencies (including Clacton) but by your logic every 'arse end' constituency in the UK should have been electing in minority party MP's like Clacton has for some years now.

IF Clacton (and Brighton) have been the 'leaders in doing so (and they have) it hasn't worked for them so far has it?

People have at least greater say in how their local council delivers services to them - agreed?

Well Clacton falls entirely within the Tendering District, local authority area, would it surprise you to know that Tendering has 47 Councillors and only 7 of which are Reform?

Not only that Tendering's Administration is composed of an alliance of parties that doesn't include the 7 Reform members or the 13 elected Conservative ones.

The voters of Clacton may well vote Reform in national elections but they certainly don't vote for them in their own local elections, and clearly the majority of their elected councillors have banded together to stop the Reform/Conservative alliance from being in overall control in Reform's 'owner' own parliamentary constituencies local council.

On that basis (and if it does turn out to be a 1 on 1 between Farage and Binface) then I can see the voters of Clacton, on this occasion at least voting for another none mainstream political party to stop Reform (Farage) - it is a free shot if you will, they can always vote him back when it matters at the next General Election elections.

This is the point I was making.

Yes, Jon Harvey.

He has put them on the map. Will do fuck all for them as he is a grifter only interested in himself and his billionaire backers…but… . There are communities all round the country where people have been neglected by the major parties. These are places that are supporting Farage and even Restore. You can hardly blame them if years of the main parties in charge has established them as the arse hole of the country.

Is it really that bad ? Just put ‘what is the level of poverty in Clacton into Google..

A closer look at the data reveals the scale of poverty and deprivation in the Clacton area:

  • General Deprivation: According to the English Indices of Deprivation 2025, a neighbourhood in Jaywick (just outside Clacton) is officially ranked as the most deprived neighbourhood in England for the fourth consecutive time. [1, 2]

  • Household Census Data: Census data indicates that 61.7% of all households in the wider Tendring district (which includes Clacton) are deprived in at least one dimension (such as health, education, or employment), which is the highest rate of any local authority in England and Wales. [1]

  • Employment: Economic inactivity and unemployment are significantly high in Clacton and its surrounding villages. In parts of Clacton, economic inactivity reaches around 40%, nearly double the national average. [1, 2]

They won’t vote For him now, his latest act is Trumpism and Brits don’t like Trump…..or something like that. 🙄

Yes, Jon Harvey.

Comedian Jon Harvey, who regularly runs in by-elections under the pseudonym Count Binface, has confirmed he will run.

Asked what his appeal will be to the people of Clacton, he told the Today programme: "Well, I'm not Nigel Farage."

He said he will tailor his manifesto to the constituency, but his national policies remain. He said these include a pledge to "price cap 99 Flakes at 99p", adding: "I think the Clacton folk will like that one."

Binface is same odds to win Clacton as England are to win the WC

This is the point I was making.

I got your point before the above essay. I do not agree with you.

Go on any political map of the country and overlay deprived/poor areas with support for Reform. It is that clear.

You mean like Makerfield,

or Gorton and Denton,

or even Clacton's very own Tendering District Council...

NONE of which Reform actually won.

I don't think Farage will win the by-election as there seems to be more people wanting him/Reform not to win (both locally and nationally as these recent results show) so will vote for Binface in a 1 to 1 situation as it appears to be at this stage.

I don't care if you agree with me or not,

I've explained my thinking, given evidence to back it up and would not be at all surprised if binface wins whether Clacton is the worst deprived/poor area in the UK or not.

It comes to something when even Rachel Reeves is rinsing you on X and David Lammy royally took the piss in PMQs, well done Farage.

You will be putting your money where your mouth is then by backing Binface ?

I hope you do I hope you win.

No I don't bet.

There wouldn't be all these bookies and gambling companies advertising themselves all over the place if everyone won all the time would there?

It doesn't bother me who wins in Clacton, I don't live there so can't vote in it.

I've simply put forward a logical view as to what I believe may happen.

It may not.

I don't win anything if I'm right.

It's not the end of my world if I'm wrong.

That ok with you because it doesn't seem like it to me somehow?

No I don't bet.

Quite bizarre you think it would. I actually said ‘I hope you win’ if you put the bet on.

Looking at the starting line it's "Sherbet" Farage 😄

Note to self: if I ever find myself in breach of my professional duties, don't worry about rules, regulations or disciplinary procedures – just get the people of Clacton on side. Problem solved

Exactly but the fact he brought all this on himself and is now contesting a seat he already held against a man dressed as a bin is just wonderful.

Then to claim this is the people against the establishment despite being just that is sublime.

There's a lot to be said for English eccentricity, eh Bolty!? 😁

No, but you just did...

Poor attempt at a swerve. Never mind.
