Sheffield Wednesday (A) - Carabao Cup

For me, I’d be looking to push the boat out for ACD& Kenny then we’d need another left winger (take a punt on CBT) and I’d take a punt on hardie too if we could get him on loan. Those 4 would make a massive difference

Granted, it’s a strange “first game of the season” And I get it’s not as important as next Saturday. But surely we are not at the stage of dismissing the league cup as a glorified friendly? It would

Its just... a really, really good piss up, Sheffield. Genuinely top class.

Or another way to look at it. Today’s game has no relevance on what we want this season. I’ll say it. Glad we are out. Shit tourno

I thought we were decent for the first 30 minutes, but wasteful in front of goal. Second half we were poor. The match illustrated that we can’t really change things from the bench at the moment and that we only have Dalby as an out and out striker. We’re asking too many different things of him and there’s not a lot of support for him.

Nah, that’s balls. We could have been three up at half time

Could have been. Didn’t we say that all last season too? Schuey wants us to be more clinical so get some bloody money spent on players that are like this kid from Gent seems to be. Even the £1.7m they paid for him seems a snip compared to what others are spending so let’s not haggle if it’s around or less than that then get him signed up because we can’t rely on Ruben every week.

Friendlies and today have shown, for me, that Dalby wont get into double figures in this league if he's being asked / trying to be two things at once. If he's coming deep to hold it up and bring people in he hasn't the pace to then get on the end of crosses that follow. If he stays high up and is a goalmouth loiterer RR will have a lot to do as the link between midfield and him.

SS has said he wants someone (such as Kenny) who has the pace to get beyond him and their back line. If he plays though, as you say, where does RR fit in?

Finding the mix that gets us scoring but accommodates our few Championship level performers is going to be a challenge.

At the minute RR is by far and away our best number 10 but also one of our two best centre mids. It's going to take a lot of good performances from others (and new signings) to see him out of the team.

Equally I wouldn't assume Dalby ends up starting every game and I'd say he's an outside bet to hit double figures whatever role he's playing.

Sorry, ive made a deal with myself to not read match threads

So

Worried Forino did his hamstring

Ref was utter shite

Simons was stupid but see above

We were fine for the majority, but 10 men and no bom squad killed us

SS said Forino had cramp.

Should have had the game sewn up by HT. Played pretty well to that point.

Thoughts Weds were pretty poor and one dimensional. But our lack of finishing cost us.

Slower start to 2nd half but still in control until Simons stupidity - he'd played well to that point. Lost our way for the next 15 mins with 10 men and 27c heat, but could have still equalised at the death. One of Bannan''s many chips over the top was eventually going to create a chance.

That's the 4th game I've seen this season. Dalby's best by a margin. Stephenson is a great buy and Larra will be fine when fit (he should have scored). Defensively Davies is good but Famewo offers little going forward. Watson has been the most disappointing so far, not yet worked out what sort of player he is. Think Dong will come good.

Will need Rodregues at the side of Sheehan now next week. Bringing Dean in has to happen this week.

Dalby is useless up on his own.....Get it sorted

Ah, stupid from Simons but the way that Wednesday player hits the ground as if he's been hit in the face is embarrassing.

But that's the kind of embarrassing things we need to be doing this season to get an advantage. We've been far too nice the last 5 seasons in league 1

Don't disagree re RR, he'd have to play himself out of the team really, the most creative body we have at the minute

I’ve got faith we will have enough to stay up by the end of this window.

Rodregues will drop into the middle mcatee will play behind dalby or he plays the Scottish lad straight swap for Simon’s

Fuck that leave RR at 10. We’ve tried everyone else at 10 and none good enough.

Mcatee / randall / Richie were spolt with depth for a ten role

1) Where was their yellow for the shirt pull, if it's bad enough for a free kick, it's also a booking (wasn't he through on goal at the time?)

2) Shouldn't that player have to leave the pitch as he went to ground?

I was watching for this at the time and their player did get booked. Simons wasn't through on goal so definitely only a booking so correct decision.

Don't think he would have to leave the pitch either given our player got a red for a punch. You only have to leave the pitch when you go down and stop playing for things that aren't fouls.

Either drop RR Back and play McAtee

or

Bring in Watson,

I dare say Richie isn't ready and Randall is just "there" now.

Dropping RR back worked when we had Kenny here alongside Dalby. Not sure any of the current squad members have Kenny's attributes to warrant moving out our biggest goal threat in RR.

Feel we need an x factor winger like ACD mainly to free up RR and Dalby as Sheff Wed weren't worried on the wings too much beyond Gales occasional good bits

I assumed he was taking the piss. I have been an advocate of Mcatee 1.0 and 2.0. I was wrong. I’m pretty convinced 3.0 will be the same.

I don’t normally turn on players but he is an evatt signing and I’ve given him 2 years.

No issue in my mind that Schuey hasn’t seen this.

I know its a smallest dwarf situation, but I'd play Randall above Watson from what I've seen. It won't happen, but I'd expect Randall to have more impact on the game, we know he can't score to save his life, but he does have some attacking qualities.

But I'd play neither preferably, we've got ourselves into a right pickle for next week. Has to be RR midfield and McAtee up front.

And FWIW the punishment of 3 games and 30 minutes suspension for Simons for the least violent "violent conduct" is a joke. No punishment for the Sheff Wed player for blatant cheating twice (shirt pull then holding his face), if I was the ref I'd be itching to send him off for feigning injury.

Randall 😳

Writing Watson off after a couple of games. Sorry this is crank.

Thick as fuck from Simons, no argument missing 3 games for that

Bannan was eventually going to come up with something, especially as we gave him so much time and space to pick his pass, and a great finish tbf

Dalby looks lost on his own, we really need to get someone alongside him, even if that means Rodrigues and Sheehan in midfield which should hopefully be more suited to the Championship

Won’t do us any harm in the long run to be out already. Big fan of playing this round on a weekend, especially in weather like today. Kelham Island was outstanding pre match, great day out.
