Granted, it’s a strange “first game of the season” And I get it’s not as important as next Saturday. But surely we are not at the stage of dismissing the league cup as a glorified friendly? It would

Its just... a really, really good piss up, Sheffield. Genuinely top class.

Or another way to look at it. Today’s game has no relevance on what we want this season. I’ll say it. Glad we are out. Shit tourno

Randall 😳

Writing Watson off after a couple of games. Sorry this is crank.

I'm not writing him off, I'm saying I'd pick Randall before him for next week. Not writing anyone off, talking about one game.

Its hard enough starting your first game in any circumstances (getting used to how we play etc) but the first game in the championship in a local derby is not the time to be thrown in the deep end.

SS picked Randall game after game for a spell last season, he's not quite as crap as everyone says, its just we're expecting to sign better (RR replaced him last season but we also had Dempsey and Kenny keeping him out).

If you've seen enough in Watson to give him a start, fair enough.

I already know the answer is SS knows more about the players than us because he sees them in training. But we are just chatting on a forum about who'd we pick or leave out if it was upto us. Folk wanting Watson to start are literally basing it on SS knows best, not their own judgement.

Randall may be our worst signing in history. Shazza and her blind loyalty to the Barrowcelona one makes it bad for me. That window is the worst in all my years of supporting Bolton. Fleck or Jemson included. We spurned an easy promotion

I dont want to attract a pile on here but isn't "SS knows best" levels and levels above fans using their own judgment?

Thats his professional role.

Agree with this.

Randall would be a better option for now. From what I've seen from Watson, he's gotta get used to the difference between Scottish Premier and Championship..

But Randall has been told he's not in the plans..

Counter argument is that the paydays from plum draws in the next round would pay for our striker to keep us up...

Absolutely. I get the argument. I loved the cup. It was way more important. I can’t remember which was first Plymouth or Hudd when both teams were trying to lose and I realised it was shit. This goes for the fa cup also. I’d personally rather go out as we haven’t been a cup team since the glory days of the 90s

I definitely wouldn’t play Randall but based on today’s performance alone Watson or McAtee would be nowhere near the starting 11.

this season is going to be the worst ever unless we bring in 4 or 5 players who are good enough for this league. We need two wingers, two strikers and another defensive midfielder

Daughter went to Uni in Sheff 16 years ago, never came back, settled there, fair to say I enjoy my visits to hers 😊🍺

I'll base it on my own judgement, having watched all the friendlies and today. Even if Randall wasn't already history, based on his absence from the last three squads, he wouldn't be near being in front of Watson anyway.

Watson hasnt ripped any trees up but did well enough in each of the friendlies, today wasn't a great situation for any of the subs to come into, only Dong in a couple of flashes made much impression.

I’ve got faith we will have enough to stay up by the end of this window.

Me too and I know it's unpopular but I'm glad we are out of this. Said to my lad on Friday I'd be satisfied if we played alreet and went out by losing by a single goal.

I am satisfied.

I feel really sorry for Joel to be honest.

I think he simply cannot be as bad as he's appeared for us. But he has been very poor in actual performances.

I was very patient, accepted lots of excuses, forgave his fails ... but he never gripped them & said "look, I'm a good player". He's floated about & given us next to nothing.

Somewhere else he may turn it around. Peterborough may want him back, Evatt saw some in him ... twice now ... but he's turning nothing round here.

Worst season ever ? Really?

Come on mate.

Look, it's pretty obvious where we are short.

If we can see it, I'm sure the manager and recruitment team can.

It's frustrating but I'm confident we'll have those 4 or 5 players in by month end and they'll give us a chance to compete.

We may still go down, this is a bloody tough league.

I felt at the time he was the exact opposite of what we needed.

We already had a surfeit of "no. 10s"

Thought we needed 1 or 2 bastards in midfield to make us harder to play against.

Like you, he's probably better than he's shown but he never really settled.

Issue is one of those midfield "bastards" we got (who break down play and get stuck in) got a straight red. We are missing EE because he's a damn good player.

I'd love SS to give him a chance, make or break.

Are we still talking about Randall here?

Yes.

I know he's had enough chances, but just a pipe dream that he can get back to the form he had before he joined us!

Dalby is weak when we play with a ten. He needs help as seen after Christmas

The sooner we get Dalby help with Either Kenny or Dean allowing Rodrigues to go back at the side of Sheehan. One signing will give this team so much more balance. A lot of good on show yesterday, just missing one or two pieces of the jigsaw
