RIP dave, this guy lived for bolton wanderers. the other day i found my old travel club membership card from season 81/82 as i was still at school back then. some great memories of dave and gerald and some of the other LOYAL characters who used to be on every away trip. great times and a sad loss to BWFC.

"David Lee... shinin... like..well..... like a light"

RIP - top man, will never be bettered as a true fans' voice

RIP - BWFC through and through

A sad loss to the BWFC match experience.

Never will another bloke get away with asking me if I want "a rub-off" for a quid again :D

there,s been some great moments from this incredible man, one of my personal favourites was when we played blackpol away in the sherpa van and blackpool had a penalty, he was going bonkers on the commentray,

" never a penalty, mr tyson on this occasion as got in wrong"

" yesssssss justice, justice is done "

quality :D

'the police are behaving like pigs'

respect to his family.

Dave's departure is a tragic loss, a nicer man you will never find.

He would eat, drink and sleep Bolton Wanderers. Put simply BWFC was his life.

He was a true gent who had lots of time for people.

He lived in the next street to me and often walked past my house on his way to 'The Morris Dancers' pub for a swift one. He loved to talk about all the news from the club and the latest player that we have been linked with etc. I can honestly say that in the numerous conversations over the years there has only ever been one topic of conversation.

He was one of the founder members of the official BWSA(supporters association) and rarely missed a meeting. He didn't attend the one when Phil Gartside was invited to do the question and answers, so I asked him why. His reason for not attending was that the previous match was the 4-0 defeat at Portsmouth and he was so angry at the lack of passion and commitment on and off the field that he didn't trust himself to keep his mouth shut and behave himself at the meeting without saying what he really wanted to. This to me summed up what 'Ding Dong Do Dave' was all about, he had Bolton Wanderers flowing through his veins.

He will be sorely missed as a person and a loyal fan

Having not lived in Bolton since '71 I only know a few fans these days but I think everyone knew Dave.

Last saw him at Palace and prior to that was drinking with him in the Dancers.

He WILL be missed.

Dave Higson was a true Bolton Legend, and the club should honour him at their forthcoming Legends Evening!

RIP Ding Dong Dave: gone but never forgotten.

A very, very sad loss to BWFC. Dave was a true gentleman. Seen him at most away matches and has always had a smile on hid face. Had several conversations with him and was such a friendly guy to talk to. tragic loss.

R.I.P Dave :(

A sad loss. I used to piss myself laughing when I used to go to away games on the travel club and when he used to sell them scratch cards he would always say "anyone fancy a rub off".

The quotes on the Liverpool cup game were legendary "you're so shit it's unbelievable" he was singing along with the fans and "souness, souness what's the score".

RIP.

Remember him taking time out to talk to my little cousin for about half an hour at his first away game at Walsall few years back. After that he became obsessed with the roadrunner videos.

Dave you are a legend

He was the only commentator ever able to interview Spazzy Darren and not take the piss or sound patronising. A pro to the end! We should come up with a Great Dave Moments Thread. I can see me digging out some old vids later.... I might even get some old BWFC ones out as well!!

I wonder how Andy Walker feels? He always seemed to get on really well with DH when he interviewed him.

Tragic news.

I`ve known Dave for 30 years. The man was Bolton Wanderers through and through. And if the club don`t do something in his memory then its a disgrace.

Too many stories of his antics to mention but the man was a legend.

RIP Dave "ding dong do" Higson.

R. I. P. Dave, you was a legend.

Rest in peace Dave,

Very sad news.

I first came across DH when I first started watching the Whites away from home back in the dark days. This overweight bloke used to make his way up from the front of the travel club coach with a fist full of scratch cards ???anyone want a rub off???? who???s this clown I thought. Respect.

Undies, Travel Club Member 281 Season 1984/85

RIP ???ding dong do???

I was quite simply astonished to hear my first ever roadrunner video.

My dad shouted me in to the living room and said 'listen to yon mon here'. I'd never heard anything like it.

He put his fellow commentators to shame, you could not infuse a commentary with more passion, genuine excitement and sheer hilarity than Mr Higson did.

He summed up what BWFC was all about when I first started to follow them, pride, passion, and love for the club whatever the circumstances.

He'll live on for years and years through those commentaries and the Wanderers fans' memories of him.

RIP Dave

same here regarding the videos. my dad shouted me to come and watch the bristol city (or torquay) one. dave higson on trinity st station and all he kept going on about is 23 carridges (number may be wrong)

he just kept going on about what a marvelous sight it was.

The playoff final video against Reading springs to mind commentating sat with the fans. Remember Double scotch Mcginley and Walker. So many fond memories. SAD DAY

one of his highlights for me

Coventry at home in the cup years ago

something along the lines of

"phililskirk, heads it goalwards, great goal, what a header, bolton score, superb goal......no, it went over, goal kick"

Sad...

one of my fav quotes i heard him say on the roadrunner videos

'' and the keeper kicks the ball from his hands''

rip bolton best do summat to show there respect!!

RIP - true legend

Obscure memory, Wrexham A FA Cup 1987, Mike Salmon in the Wrexham goal (I think)

"The fans are singing it for me, Bolton reject, Bolton reject"

Might pop an old compilation video on later for old times sake.

R.I.P

Gutted to hear that Dave's gone - I grew up watchin the wanderers on the roadrunner vids and it always put a smile on my face when I saw him at away games. Really hope the club does honour him on legends night or on that new statue thing or somethin. He will be sorely missed
