RiCcI Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 A few quotes from sam allardyce, from thoe bolton eveneng news tonite, "id sooner have got knocked out the uefa cup" What a load of b*llox, then he goes on to say "the uefa cup is an impossible dream for u" that pi*sed me off more, we have drawn with sevilla, i no they played a weaker team that normal, but we didnt play our best team either, i might be gettin annoyed about nothing here, but even so, i dont think the uefa cup is not impossible for us, and as far as im concerned, that is a nonsense quote from big sam
Eavesy Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 i think he is looking to the future and deciding that gettin to the semis of the uefa cup will not help us progress were as winning a domestic cup and qualifying for the uefa cup again next year will help us and we will have a lot better chance of winning it second time around.

What about all the thousands following us around Europe, good job we all don't think we have no chance.
uncle knobhead Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 I read the quote and thought it was a stupid thing to say. Sam normally deals with the press well but he dropped a bollock with this interview. At least that is my opinion.
Mounts Kipper Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 reverse pschology from sam, he is the master at it.
RiCcI Posted December 21, 2005 Author Posted December 21, 2005 reverse psycology belongs in the dressing room, not the local paper
Carlos Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 I think it's a fair assessment of his attitude. Look at the teams he put out against Plovdiv, and how he admitted regretting it when seeing how many people had travelled. It looks like I've just wasted best part of a grand chasing an impossible dream.
george Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Sam wants to win a trophy for his CV....he said that a week or two ago. The quarter final draw ended our dreams of that though.....tough away game for us and Arsenal and Man Utd kept apart. We need a piss easy run to the final like Millwall got and then hope the opposition freeze on the day.
RiCcI Posted December 21, 2005 Author Posted December 21, 2005 to beat marseille ovr 2 legs in the uefa cup, we will have to be top or our game, i cant see a team like V having slow players, just to p*ss us off they will field 4/5 olimpic sprinters in there side, just to make jaidi look silly again, i dont think we have anything to worry about at the reebok, its just at the Stade Velodrome we might have a problem, fingers crossed we beat them and then draw zenit again, i dont fancy rosenborg O:)
Traf Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 It looks like I've just wasted best part of a grand chasing an impossible dream. I reckon it has cost us more than a grand each so far, including the cost of the Marseiile trip. As for the comment from bolton boy, I think Zenit would murder us on a decent pitch.
dioufy_junior Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I agree, if the weather had noy been like it was when we played Zenit we could be out of the Uefa Cup now!!!

gazza Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 do you think he might have been gutted that the door had been shut on our easy entry into europe had been cancelled out?
exiledwhite2 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 do you think he might have been gutted that the door had been shut on our easy entry into europe had been cancelled out? You got it Gazza...took you long enough, but you got it! He is just stating a plain fact. It's hard to admit, but I don't think we have a prayer in the uefa. I for one severely underestimated the quality of the competition. The league cup is MILES easier to win, but as George said, even that is tough.
RiCcI Posted December 22, 2005 Author Posted December 22, 2005 I agree, if the weather had noy been like it was when we played Zenit we could be out of the Uefa Cup now!!! yes, maybe so, but. i dont fancy the prospect of Rosenborg much either
Ani Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 A few quotes from sam allardyce, from thoe bolton eveneng news tonite, "id sooner have got knocked out the uefa cup" What a load of b*llox, then he goes on to say "the uefa cup is an impossible dream for u" that pi*sed me off more, we have drawn with sevilla, i no they played a weaker team that normal, but we didnt play our best team either, i might be gettin annoyed about nothing here, but even so, i dont think the uefa cup is not impossible for us, and as far as im concerned, that is a nonsense quote from big sam i thought last week the seville game was the most important in the clubs history ??? sam is a superb manager, the best we have ever had, and probably the best manager we could have in the world but he talks shite to the press sometimes. we all hear about clubs struggling with squad size when they are in too many competitions, but how about fans ?? this week i have paid out ??170 for flight to marseille, ??39 for united ticket, still need ticket and accom for marseille. in the week before xmas. would like to know what are the clubs real priorities this season. the first is staying up and we will do that, everythign else for me is a bonus.
Burndens Bogs Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I don't see why the Carling cup is miles easier to win, apart fom the fact that you play a lot less games. To win the carling cup we would more than likely have to beat a full strength Arsenal or Man U at Cardiff. Yes there are some good teams in UEFA, but i don't think there are any GREAT teams - no Real Madrid,no Barca,no Chelsea etc etc. This is cup football for gods sake anything can happen. Of the teams left in the uefa, who would we be SERIOUS underdogs to over 2 legs? We're 5th in the Premiership and we should fear no one, Sams comments were ill advised at best , imo.
Zico Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 It looks like I've just wasted best part of a grand chasing an impossible dream. I don't for a second think we will win this tournament, but at the same time I don't for a second think the money spent going to Bulgaria and Marseille has been wasted either
Guest Biff Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I think what Sam was saying is that he would rather win the Carling Cup and be in European competition next season than win the UEFA Cup and not be in European competition next season.
SatanGreavsie Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Our priority has to be doing well in UEFA otherwise whats the fuckin point of getting into europe? I mean you end up with an argument going round in circles - I've talked to people who've said "the league takes precedence" and you ask why and they say "so we can get back into europe". But then you say "well if we're not going to give europe our best shot, why be so fussed about getting back there?". Total Euro costs so far about ??1400 (including marseilles and the cost of me travel up to the home games and sorting out the fcuk up after missing the flight back from Istanbul - just glad the taxi driver didnt add on a soilage charge 8-[ ).
Casino Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Our priority has to be doing well in UEFA otherwise whats the raggin point of getting into europe? priority 1 has to be the league*** followed imo by uefa we could pull out of the fa cup now, for me ***thats where the money is, and an outside (very) of reaching the main stages of the chumps league - money again
Guest Biff Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Sure you should give your best in every competition that you are in. However it is financially better to be in European competition season after season than win a European competition but not qualify for Europe the following season. Just ask Liverpool.
Guest as Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I thought his comments had more to do with the Bolton following at Wigan. He saw our end full to capacity (whilst the rest of the ground looked like a reserve game was on) and his emotions got the better of him. I'd put that comment down to him being p*ssed off with the players, and the fact that we've reached the final of the League Cup previously. I'm sure he'll take the Marseille game deadly serious. IN SAM WE TRUST PB In the rythmn of the night
