Smiley Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 gets loads of email junk with tips for shares. its a bigger ball game - but wondered if anyone had anything worth considering? Quote
Traf Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 The junk e-mails re: shares are just that. The folk sending them out own lots of the shares they're pushing. They are getting the prices to rise artificially, so they can sell at a profit, leaving you with a worthless portfolio. Quote
Ani Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 the question you ask ourself is 'why would someone who knows something about a share be telling me ?' especially via jumk email...... if you can come with a good reason, assuming it is NOT just christian decency then buy yhte shares, if not read Trafs post and ignore. Something I've thought about doing but don't know where to start Probably not something worth doing to just buy shares in individual companies unless you really know your stuff. Most banks have some kind of income or growth share funds that can be incorporated into an ISA though. Quote
Smiffs Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 I bought NOP 2 weeks ago at 91p...look at em now :D/ I weighed in yesterday and if they fail you are going in the next ring beam. Jay, buying and selling shares is piss easy online, its picking the right ones that is the hard bit. Quote
Casino Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 out of interest, if the value of your investment goes up and you cash in, is it taxable? Quote
Sweep Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 I would have thought so, some sort of capital gains must be applicable, but I would also imagine you would have a certain threshold that you have to reach before having to pay tax. To be honest I don't know 8-[ Quote
