Smiley Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 thinking of going to see the Blue Jays vs the Yankees. anyone ever been to a baseball game?????
HomerJay Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 like most american sports, its all about the half time entertainment rather than the game itself...
Piemon Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 thinking of going to see the Blue Jays vs the Yankees. anyone ever been to a baseball game????? ive played baseball on the nintendo wii its very hard. i hate the americans playing sport its wrong
frank_spencer Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 thinking of going to see the Blue Jays vs the Yankees. anyone ever been to a baseball game????? the missus hates sports but used to go watching the baseball when she lived in yank land just for the day out that surrounds the sports over there!
pike_mill_white Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I got dragged to watch Boston Red Sox when I was living in the States. By far the most boring game of all the big 4 US sports. At least you can drink that piss poor excuse for a beer while you watch.
Guest as Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Go watching Ice Hockey - some brutal fights ni that sport The other big US sports are sh?te.............and I'm still puzzled as to how they can call that baseball tournament a World Series, when only them & the japs play it (and that's coz they want to be American).
Guest not_even_irish Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Saw the Yankees v Dallas or Houston or someone at Yankees Stadium. Was pretty cheap about ?8, was a few home runs in the 1st couple of innings, then none for the next 6. So got bored and fucked it off. Its good as a novelty, then soon wears off.
jazza Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 i went to a minor league game when I lived in California and beer apart it was dire. I thought cricket was sh?te but baseball makes it look exciting
jayjayoghani Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Watched Chicago White Sox v Texas Rangers once at Comiskey Park Chicago. Think Baseball is a game which doesn't watch that well unless you know your stuff. It's probably similar to a Yank watching cricket. You have to properly understand the game to enjoy it. Best bit was probably buying a hotdog from one of them mobile vendor guys. You don't have to leave your seat - the money, change and hotdog all travel down a line of people. Dread to think how that would work in the East Lower. It would be anarchy. Definitely go though even if it is a bit rubbish.
jayjayoghani Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/tor/ticket...printathome.jsp You can even buy your tickets online and print them out.
mickbrown Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Just get yourself down to Moss Bank park. There's usually a load of fat lasses playing rounders somewhere. Lot cheaper.
shytalk Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Americans can keep baseball. Been to a few games on invite, but soon got bored. Until the woman three rows behind gets one smack in the shoulder. Keep your eye on the ball missus. Games can drag on forever, even though its supposed to be 9 innings, you cant get a draw. So play goes on and on and on till some fecker does sommat. They are generally well supported though, but why go with a glove. Thats like us going to Reebok carrying boots just in case you have to kick the ball back. You still have to go though Smiley. Just to say you've been. Beer and brats without moving, its the future.
Smiley Posted July 19, 2007 Author Posted July 19, 2007 http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/tor/ticket...printathome.jsp You can even buy your tickets online and print them out. Aye - all the rage. Just bought and printed out my tickets for The Cribs at Lee's Palace. Came in PDF format. For those of you who have been to games - if you go to this link - and click on the T next to Wed 8 Aug - which seats are the best in your opinion (ie. which colour, level, etc)? When I put in Best Available it gave me the orange ones. on the lower level behind the pitcher. http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/ticketing/...me.jsp?c_id=tor

Guest not_even_irish Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 We had the cheap seats at the Yankees, its about what its worth and the game isn't any better the nearer you are. And of course you get to see the cheap fat yanky slobs stuffing their faces with hot dogs, burgers and boxes of cereal.
byrom is the king Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 like most american sports, its all about the half time entertainment rather than the game itself... Except they don't have a "half time" in baseball. Perhaps you are referring to the "Seventh Inning Stretch".
Smiley Posted July 19, 2007 Author Posted July 19, 2007 We could sit in the upper tier for ?4.50! What's the view like?
byrom is the king Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 We could sit in the upper tier for ?4.50!What's the view like? If you understand the game and want to watch the tactics used by the pitcher and the catcher, take the expensive seats behind home plate. If you are just going for a fun night out of swigging beer, eating hot dogs and taking in the overall atmosphere, buy the cheap seats. Any important plays will be shown on the giant screen TV anyway.....

Any important plays will be shown on the giant screen TV anyway..... Good advice from Byrom. Baseball is a game of tactics - if you do not have much of an idea about the game go for the cheaper seats and just enjoy the occasion. One small point though - thinking of going to see the Blue Jays vs the Yankees. anyone ever been to a baseball game????? In America - the home team is shown last - so the Blue Jays v Yankee game (if that is how it is being advertised in the states) will be being played in New York and not Toronto! Check were the game is being played before you buy your tickets! I have been to a couple of games - LA Dodgers v San Diego, and Oakland v Seattle.
wovlad Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 thinking of going to see the Blue Jays vs the Yankees. anyone ever been to a baseball game????? Just like most sports its good when its good & poor when its poor. First game I went to was Baltimore vs Angels, no home runs and the A's won 1 zip. Crap but good fun. Second game Boston vs Montreal . Home run, bottom of the 9th with bases loaded to win. Doesn't get much better than that. Watched it with some guys from Toronto who'd come because they hate Montreal. Big ale session was had afterwards Last time in the US watched the Yankees vs Braves. Went with a mate from Bolton ( Ratty ) and a group of NY friends of mine. We'd gone over to NY watch a Lennox Lewis fight. Ratty a big boxing fan prefered the baseball. Not so much the game but the whole day out.
Zico Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 i once went watching manchester giants(?) or was it storm ice hockey w?nk no goals and no fights at the time I got up and left
Guest squidgy66 Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Saw the Toronto thingies play the Chicago White Socks once. Iit was the dullest time of my adult existance. Four hours FFS! The only consilation was we had seats in the Hard Rock Cafe in the stadium and got so gary nevilleedd they threatened to chuck us out!
jeep Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 In 1987 I saw Whitley Bay Warriors play Durham Wasps at the Whitley Bay Ice Rink. I think the Warriors won 16-14 ish. There was about 5 or 6 fights because it was a local derby and they had a bit of hate for each other. It wasn't a bad neet out to be fair. I haven't been to an ice hockey match since so perhaps it wasn't that good......
Underpants Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I did the Americam football and Baseball thing when I was over there. Can't say I enjoyed either much even though at the time I was in to American Football in a big way. Think I went more because I just could than anything else. I did find that some of the locals thought it would be nice to talk to me and buy me beverges than watch the game.

I've been to the Blue Jays and I'd honestly say just get the cheapest seats in the top tier. There's not really a bad seat in the house. I think it holds about 60,000 and there wasn't more than 20,000 there on our 2 visits. Yankees could be different though as they're the baseball equivalent of United so everyone might turn out. They're also equally hated I believe! Worth a trip as a one off but like others have said it can be feckin' dull at times. Enjoy.
