frank_spencer Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 looking dodgy now brum in for him , no need to move sland in , will offer silly money nows the time for gartslime to put up or feck off eh? if a player choses to stay birmingham what's it got to do with gartside?
jimmyjoojar Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Hang about. We're already paying over the odds for him on account of his being English and us being desperate. Are you suggesting we should offer him an extra ten grand a week to stop him signing for someone else, or have you seen enough of him to be confident we'll have one of the top three defenders in world football on our hands in three year's time? No point reasoning with the brain dead. These are the same kind of people who will moan at the club for paying too much for him at a later date. FWIW I think we could be Cahill's prefered choice, of the 3 clubs in for him we are the only one who are an established Prem side (for the time being).
YATESY Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 We may also (finally) get some benefit out of the signings of McCann and Samuel - there again Cahill might hate the pair of them and it counts against us!!
scoobydoo Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 eh? if a player choses to stay birmingham what's it got to do with gartside? offer him a deal that he wont refuse .

jimmyjoojar Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 if the manager has decided that this is the defender who he wants then the board need to support him. 2 days and counting And how the f?ck do you know that the board aren't supporting the manager. After all the board seem to be willing to pay over the odds for the lad to begin with......FFS!
enzo gambaro Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 offer him a deal that he wont refuse . Think you're getting us mixed up with QPR.
george Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 So have we signed him or not?! I don't think anybody has yet,he is seeing who will offer him the most money. If all 3 clubs offer the same i think we must have a reasonable chance of signing him because Manchester is surely a more attractive place for a young millionaire than Newcastle or Birmingham.

Wasn't good enough for Mr Anelka though was it
mart32 Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I hope the deal won't go through, he's totally overpriced. If ain't good enough for Villa that enough for me. Good riddance
jules_darby Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I hope the deal won't go through, he's totally overpriced. If ain't good enough for Villa that enough for me. Good riddance And you would rather us... Sign nobody else to play centre-half? or Sign whom to play centre half? Headbangingsmilierequiredplease
Zico Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 if the manager has decided that this is the defender who he wants then the board need to support him. 2 days and counting he has they have they went back in with improved offers they've been negotiating for 3 weeks this is whilst they've been tying up the deals for Taylor and Steinsson and making moves for Gudjohnsen
frank_spencer Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I hope the deal won't go through, he's totally overpriced. If ain't good enough for Villa that enough for me. Good riddance youri wasn't good enough for kaiserslauten okocha wasn't good enough for PSG etc etc etc o'neill has laursen who is undoubtedly better than cahill also knight and curtis davis who he has signed the lad has undoubted potential and ability but he's not in the picture at villa for some reason.
peebles Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 On BBC website there is no mention of Birmingham and Sunderland matching our offer. Roy Keane said he wouldn't be making any signings yesterday (pretty much). Have they definitely matched our offer? If so BBC are a joke.

Alec McCleish says they've bid for him and are hoping to sign him
The True Marple White Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I think its a good price for an up and coming player. Sheff United were gutted they couldn't attract him perminantly and All the villa fans on the forums say he is one of their best center halfs - so get him in I say. Will do a job with Meite
mart32 Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 And you would rather us... Sign nobody else to play centre-half? or Sign whom to play centre half? Headbangingsmilierequiredplease That's Megsons problem. Surely the scouting network can come up with some overpriced no regular.
jules_darby Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 That's Megsons problem. Surely the scouting network can come up with some overpriced no regular. So you're just another moaner with no solution then. If other clubs were signing decent attainable centre-halves then fair enough, but they're not so maybe there is nobody else available. So would you rather we keep with our current defence?
Gaz Nt Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Surely if the lad had any sense then; A) He wouldn't go to bitter rivals Brum as he would get consistant stick from his current club and probably lose his confidence which will inevitably end his career He'd come to a team that is a top 8 team currently underachieving this season due to a little dwarf with no idea being employed at the start of the season, signing loads of rejects, and playing 'attractive football' with the end result being a loss. This is besides the point. Cahill joining Bolton would inevitably enhance his possibility of one day playing for England. We have had endless English talent at the club... Nolan, Hunt, Ricketts and most recently Matty Taylor. All will/have played for England one day! (All this written tongue in cheek haha) C) Join Sunderland... haha don't be silly!

If other clubs were signing decent attainable centre-halves then fair enough, but they're not so maybe there is nobody else available. So would you rather we keep with our current defence? Just get some stop gap until Meite returns. Surely we can pick someone up for less than a million. My Villa pal nearly choked on his cuppa tea when he heard the amount of the offer.
Yossi Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Good enough player. Waaaay overpriced but as has been noted previously you aren't in a strong position bargaining wise. A player going for twice his true value isn't that much of a gamble when compared to what he (and the others) can hopefully save you come May.
Zico Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 BBC website, from the team news for tonight: "El-Hadji Diouf and Abdoulaye Meite are away on Africa Nations Cup duty but new signing Gary Cahill may be available."
ChezneyHawkes Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I'd ditch Meite who's looked un-interested this season & play Cahill & O'Brien.
