Did Lower Nags become Oliver's in the mid-late 80's?

There's a poem about all the pubs that once existed along Churchgate, some of the owd uns might remember it, lines such as "The Legs of Man that couldn't walk, the Kings Head that couldn't talk"...... was printed in a Bolton Beer Guide, early 90's. Will try to dig it out....

Lower Nags did indeed become Olivers.

Greenalls leased the building from Burtons and were forced to shut the pub, when Burtons refused to renew the lease, because they wanted to use the space for warehousing.

A useless fact brought to you in association with Mike Hunt's Interesting Anecdotes.

I used to try and wear high heels in my youth and always struggled with the stairs there. From reading some of the posts on here recently, I presume there'll be other poster who had the same problem.

This site's full of Dick Emerys!

Not strictly pubs but they had bars. Biff - The Hippodrome was opposite the GPO (next to the Hen and Chickens). What was the other big theatre called down near t'Parish Church (roughly where the BEN (sorry BN) offices are now?

F?ckin' hell Bolty, I don't think there'll be too many on here remember the Hippodrome. I'll need to give my mum a ring to find out about theatres.
