Superb find!! Obviously I’d love my Dad to be still alive (sadly at 105 it would be wishful thinking) but it’s stuff like this that rings so many bells about stuff he told me By 1945 he’d be

I love any highlights of us at home that season. I was the ballboy behind the goal at the away end and on TV every other week.
Highlights include a pink dildo narrowly missing my head that was thrown from Pompey fans in the upper tier, and a young girl & her dad (Tranmere) almost reducing me to tears with constant abuse for 120 minutes.
Oh, and throwing it to Youri or Jay Jay for every corner throughout the season.

just been thinking about this, that's a fair old lob.

Has anyone else on here thrown a dildo further than that?

Funnier still, a steward came rushing to report the dildo with a walkie-talkie:-

“Er. We’ve had a pink object thrown...”

It was a fair-old throw. Would’ve knocked me out for sure. Almost made a dent in the back of the advertising boards as it bounced off.

Not forgetting relegating Leeds either. They didn’t half turn on Viduka when he got sent off.

Karma for making a racket during Eddie Hopkinson’s minutes silence. Absolute lowlife.

I know this website a lot of things, but full of competitive dildo throwers, is a new one.

1929 cup final with sound . Good sing song for the crowd before the game

Not us, but always a delight seeing these cunts getting such a good pasting

Not watching it but is that the game bailey saved a couple of penalties?

I have absolutely no recollection of this game

Aye easy to forget the league as the cup run took over

it was a blow to their play off hopes think they missed out by a few points

good double over them

I've just watched the full itv show, of the worthy v Ipswich goal

Turns out it was also nowaks debut

They started the show with interviews with three fans

Fuck me, we have always managed to put our thickos in front of the cameras

As an aside, Worthington scored one of the best goals ever seen, against a defence made up of three England defenders and a quality Scottish right back, watched by Greenwood

He was top scorer in the league

And still no England call up

He was due to sign for Dallas tornado the following day

I've seen that too. A couple of them interviewees looked like they'd been dug out of the cemetery that morning and stood up in front o a camera.

Frank going to the USA was what did for us in the end. He came back with a different attitude that August.

Haha

Never did sign for Dallas

Went to Philadelphia that year

LA following year and like you said, was late back and seemed to be the beginning of the end

Didn't he sign for Brum to team up with Whatmore?

He signed for Brum but we had Whatmore long after he'd left. We never even attempted to replace Frank. It was Gowling and Whatmore up front with Chris Thompson and Mike Carter thrown in.

We never seem to cash in on a player.  If that was now someone like Everton or Villa would pay £15mil for a guaranteed 15 goals plus a season, even if he only had 2 or 3 years left at the top level.  Our top players just seem to leave out of the back door with no fanfare.  Not comparing the 2 as players but not dissimilar to the way ALF left, slipping away without the fee he's worth.  If both those players had been at Wigan or Burnley they'd have funded half the squad for the next 6 months on the transfer fee (plenty more examples).

But whatmore did play with Frank at brum, didn't he

I remember him leaving the day before a season

Thanks. Yes I was a journo ... not for 20 years now though! Although I still write for a living most of the time (PR). Funny how I can remember lots about a game against Preston in 1989. Ask me about anything from about 2009 onwards and I'll really struggle!

Enjoyed that. I remember being at the game too. Towards the end of 98/99 and the indifferent results we suffered due to being poor defensively. As I recall Bristol City had a bit of a cavalry charge towards the end but for once we held out.

Yes we seemed to be limping to the line at this stage.

Bolton v West Brom 1999

A slightly rotund Fabian De Freitas scoring a cracker against us , and Bob Taylor doing likewise against his former club.

Saw an interview with De Freitas after he played in that legends game. Said something along the lines of:-

“It was nice as I’ve never played here before”

Surely you’d remember scoring that goal against your old club in their new stadium  😂

Edit: Found it at 1:40. Said he’d never scored there.

That was around the time when he missed kick off, because he was sleeping and thought it was an evening game when playing for West Brom though.

Thanks for that , the legends day was brilliant .

Another 2 former players with a lot of praise for the club , I love to see that.

You would have thought he would have remembered such a goal , unless he was just being polite by not mentioning it.

Bolton 3 Southend 0 1995

David Lee showing the best and his worst finishing.

That goal against Bristol City. When was the last time we counter attacked like that?  Fast running off the ball, quick, incisive passing, great finish.  Under Parky I'd stopped believing football could be played like that.

Absolutely mate , for a few years that style was the norm to watch and what we had to endure in the last few years has been painful to say the least . Good memories though.
