Eddie Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Wigan in the league. And Braaten scored once. Very true, and maybe I am just being too optimistic about it. There's just something about him that makes me think that he was completely wasted on the left hand side, and if he were given a run of games up top (seen as he is a striker) then he could show us what he could really do.
SpiritofBurnden Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I don't think he was going to keep us up if Sturridge hadn't arrived. Sturridge's goals contributed to 5 points that we might not otherwise have had, so on that basis we would have stayed up with or without him.
superbobby Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Get him signed! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8Vfdx7LEh4
tylswhite Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Sturridge's goals contributed to 5 points that we might not otherwise have had, so on that basis we would have stayed up with or without him. Very doubtful imo. We were on a run of 7 games without a win until he popped that one in against Wolves and woke us up out of that slump. He got also contributed to :- 1 Point vs Newcastle Everton at home he scored the goal that settled it and killed Everton off. He scored the opener vs West ham and the 3rd. Arsenal at home he scored the opening goal. The above for me are worth more than 5 points and we would of been in the brown sticky stuff if he hadnt of arrived imo.
tylswhite Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 With you on that completely I think he'd be a great asset But would he be effective and a regular in the forthcoming season? If the answer is no, I don't think we can afford many "ones for the future" that eat up our budget now....as we could always then get relegated and be forced to sell them cheaply anyway! If the season started tomorrow he could have his pick of left wing or striker role imo. I think he could be effective if we actually play him. He has shown he has got the skills and with a bit more guidance & experience he could be a top player for us imo.
DazBob Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 But had Sturridge not been playing then someone else would've bneen playing in his position and, whilst maybe definitely not scoring as many as he did, they would've contributed something. Who knows, maybe Rodrigo would've got a run of games and scored a few...

Arsenal at home he scored the opening goal. To suggest that his goals were somehow more important than someone else's in the same game is just bending the facts to fit the argument.

I can see what your saying but looking back now part of me thinks he we hadnt of got Sturridge when we did we would of got suckied into that relegation battle and we all know anything can happen then. That goal Sturridge scored against Wolves was an absolute massive goal, if we didnt know it at the time we do now.

Im not im just saying they were a big contribution. If we hadnt of taken the lead against Arsenal do you think we still would of won? Not to mention the fact he won us a penalty even though KD missed it. If he hadnt of scored the 2nd vs Everton they might of equalised? You cant just count the stats on paper to gauge how much a player has contributed to a team. Its a lot more than just stats.

I think his arrival and the fact he hit the gournd running gave everyone a huge lift. The fact that we had a striker with pace as well also meant that the opposition's defence could no longer afford to play as far up the pitch.
SpiritofBurnden Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 If we hadnt of taken the lead against Arsenal do you think we still would of won? Guest bwfcdan Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Anelka 10/1 to come back to us. We can always dream
BURNDEN BILLY Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 bwfcdan I dream along with you mate. If only this could be made to happen. I thought he had decided to go over to the USA? Or was that just papertalk?
tylswhite Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 No, we would have had a point, which is why i said that his goals had earned us 5 points more than we would have had. You cant just allocate points per goal, thats bullshit. If Arsenal took the lead against us the chances of us drawing were minimal imo and also i reckon the bookies opinion too.
SpiritofBurnden Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 You cant just allocate points per goal, thats bullshit. Eh? We won 2-1. Without Sturridge's goal it would have been 1-1. Simplistic maybe but no more simplistic than the 'bullshit' you've posted about Everton equalising if Sturridge hadn't scored a second for example.

SpiritofBurnden Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Didn't Tamir Cohen score the winner against Arsenal? Yes but his goals aren't as important as Daniel Sturridge's and therefore don't count. So in actual fact we lost the game 0-1.

You cant just take bits out of matches and expect it to pan out exactly the same. Thats the most idiotic reasoning ive ever fucking heard!
tylswhite Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Didn't Tamir Cohen score the winner against Arsenal? Yes but dont you think the game may of been different had we not scored first?
