It's a very Stubbs-esque thing to say.

Not really. Stubbs made no secret of the fact that he wanted to leave us when Blackburn were sniffing around him and McAteer. Cahill has kept a dignified silence during all the rumours regarding the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs being after him. He's handled himself well and not 'done a Modric' and said he doesn't want to play for us because his head's not right.

I'm not saying things won't change before January 31st, I simply said he deserves credit for not handing in a transfer request last night to force a move through as others did.

im not slating him

but he doesnt need to. Modric has to stay for 5 years

same with arteta and meireles

cahill has to keep silent for a maximum of 9 months and he can pick his club and be one of the higest paid players in the premier league

Do you honestly believe that to be true?

yes

without a doubt

hes going to have the top 6 clubs fighting for him on a bosman

he will be one of the best value for money signings of all time in the premier league.

think sol campbell

Think your getting a but giddy with statements like that.

Sol Campbell cost Arsenel a fortune in wages! Wasn't he the first player to earn over 100k.

Ah but

Let's say BWFC have a bad season

This could well be reflected in the interest of GC at the very top level

And that's not even taking into consideration that GC could have a bad spell himself / get injured etc

This is a big risk for him and he needs to keep proving himself, otherwise top level interest will wane

I reckon Cahill has acted with a dignity that is sadly lacking in the game at the moment, maybe he's been too nice about it, if he'd pushed the issue he'd be at Arsenal right now just hope staying works out for him and us

Spot on - If he is playing as well as the previous 12 months and one of the big boys are struggling in that department come Xmas then I see us losing him then. All down to the lad himself and other influences

Not necessarily. Someone might make an offer in January to avoid competing with other clubs at the end of the season.

Someone may make us an offer in January that we accept but then Cahill will have to agree terms with that club, he may want inflated wages as his agent will be speaking to other clubs about wages if he moves for free in the summer. It would be in Cahills interest financially to wait until the summer.

I think its nailed on that he will walk for free, IMO to Chelsea or Man City.

We will just have to wipe our mouths and move on. As a so called "trading club" we need to be careful that we dont lose many more of our saleable assets for free. This summer we lost Elmander, Next prob Cahill then the year after LCY goes to do his national service(unsure). Think its important that Stuart Holden is tied down to a decent length contract, we cannot let that lad get down to one year like Cahill.

I hope the club will offer Cahill a new contract which i think he would sign, as i think he thinks a lot about the club. At least then we will still get decent money for him. I get the feeling he's not the type to do the club out of good money by letting his contract run down.

I doubt that any modern day footballer thinks like this.

At the end of the day they are worth what someone will pay them, the best we could get to would be 50k - 60k a week (and that would be just to tie him down so that we can sell for a fee). If he is available for free then he could go to city or chelsea and fetch 80k - 90k a week with his signing on fee taken into account. He like 99.999999% of other footballers would take the money, as would 99.9999% of us in his boots.

Was Anelka not on 70k a week? I can't remember but I'm sure that was the figure floated about. If he was then surely we could offer that to Cahill too? Although it might cost us a fair bit more in the short term, it might mean that if someone wabts him then they at least have to pay the going rate instead of using the 'last year of contract' arguement. Offer him a big wage, put in a reasonable sale clause and give him the armband which would mean Davies is no longer undroppable as well!

The difference is you could argue elmander owed us something, record signing and a lot of faith put in him after a poor majority of time here. Cahill owes us nothing. We've got more than what we paid for out of him and he's seeing out his contract respectfully as he's allowed to. We didn't get a good offer therefore we don't sell as it wasn't in our interests.

Plus I think LCY is exempt from his service due to being a school dropout?

if i see harry talking about cahill on ssn before january, im going to post him a dollop of my own personal shit every day for a year!

Redknapp also revealed QPR had been poised to sign Sebastien Bassong on a season-long loan deal, but that fell through when the Cahill transfer collapsed.

'[Neil Warnock] was looking to sign Seb on a loan deal or a semi-permanent deal almost, but once Gary Cahill fell through we couldn't let him go,' the Spurs boss added.

It gets even better. We keep hold of Cahill and, in the process, inadvertantly piss Warnock off. Result!
