birch-chorley Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I think our full backs would have been covered better today with an extra man at the back rather than in midfield, The goals came from balls from centre going over Robbos shoulder rather than him facing a two on one situation in front of him.
Ani Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 How many time did Terry bomb forward? If Ngog was only marking one then he was marking the wrong one. If SKD was point man then Luiz wouldnt have got away with half as much. ngog was marking a man so who was nt?
birch-chorley Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 midfield midfield is where games are won & lost Normally yes but when you have "where's wally" at left back it makes it a fuck load easier. Look how many of the goals we have conceded so far this season have come down that side. Most are due to a shit left back more than an average left back exposed by no midfield.
Ani Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Im sorry but we played 451/433 today with SKD and Petrov wide and it was mainly 451 due to us defending most of the game. the point is that people wanting 4 5 1 wanted us to play 5 midfield players, not a centre forward on the right side of midfield and a bloke who is the best left back at the club in central midfield.
birch-chorley Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 ngog was marking a man so who was nt? He might as well have marked Peter Chech than John Terry for all he gets forward, Luiz was the only one getting forward and the only centre half who needed closley looking after
jules_darby Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 He might as well have marked Peter Chech than John Terry for all he gets forward, Luiz was the only one getting forward and the only centre half who needed closley looking after Good grief Clueless
Ani Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 He might as well have marked Peter Chech than John Terry for all he gets forward, Luiz was the only one getting forward and the only centre half who needed closley looking after you seem determined not to answer the question.

Do you honestly think that swaping either Eagles / Tuncay for Davies and Ricky for Robbo would have made a difference? I saw Ricky at left back at Villa away and he wasnt what he used to be. Cant have done worse than robbo today granted but we needed an extra centre half today more than anything (unless we had decent full backs)
Butterfly Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 the point is that people wanting 4 5 1 wanted us to play 5 midfield players, not the best left back at the club in central midfield. Out of interest which 3 central midfield players did you want today?
birch-chorley Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Good grief Clueless I dont see why, he can only look after one and Luiz is the attacking threat, mark him and let Terry take the ball forward. Terry is a good defender but he isnt going to do the damage Luiz will do going forward.
Guest Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Out of interest which 3 central midfield players did you want today? Peter Reid McAteer Holden Would have had a chance Speaking of P Reid, he would have kicked ass today

Cant have done worse than robbo today granted but we needed an extra centre half today more than anything (unless we had decent full backs) ok so we agree that anyone would have been better than robinson today. then we have muamba to play centre midfield instead of ricky? square pegs in square holes. seriously today i watched a b league under 14 game before coming over and the team won their first game of the season, for the first time this eason the maanager played players in their best positions, it aint rocket science.
HomerJay Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Muamba and NRC Then either tuncay or, mavies or pratley if were happy just to get about the pitch. One thing I'd like to see us try is eagles and petrov on the wrong sides. No point in them crossing for a single striker. petrov can certainly hit a ball and I actually believe now that eagles can too. Plus he's never got round the outside yet anyway.
birch-chorley Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Ok Ani we agree Robbo was shite. Did anyone understand how he stayed on the field yet Gretar was subbed For Knight as it stumped me.

Terry is a good defender but he isnt going to do the damage Luiz will do going forward. He can only look after one now? Earlier didn't you want him chasing along the back line ala Davies? Our lone striker doesn't just sit on one centre half, he's out attacker for christ's sake. When they get possession at the back he chases as much as is reasonably possible and if they pass it about and the "other" centre half carries it forward it should be into an area heavily populated by our 3 centre mids....
Ani Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Out of interest which 3 central midfield players did you want today? personally i would have NRC and FM as 2 players breaking up the play and probably davis m to be a bit more creative and link up with the front man
Guest Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 tuncay should be one of the first names ont team sheet in position
birch-chorley Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Its all ifs buts and maybees now I suppose. The fact is Wigan away is now our biggest league game for a long time and at ?20 a head a full end is an absolute must. Round up the troops boys, we need a full voice to give the lads a boost.
Globetrotter Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Ok Ani we agree Robbo was shite. Did anyone understand how he stayed on the field yet Gretar was subbed For Knight as it stumped me. I pondered this and the only reason / excuse I can think of is that he wanted ZK to help out at set pieces and he had better options (in his mind) to replace at RB than a LB. But for all I know GS may have been a wee bit injured. Anyway, enough naval gazing for me, two weeks to sort it out Owen baby ..... Onwards and upwards .... The next 6 is a mini comp in itself. COYWM
Casino Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 i'd guess coyle blasted steinnson for his fook up on the first goal and then it went downhill
Traf Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 4-4-2 4-5-1 4-3-3 5-4-1 4-5-1 3-5-2 5-3-2 3-4-3 All have been mooted and/or tried recently. In reality, it's just a series of differing ways to make 10 from 3 numbers. The fact is this: our best available players aren't all on the pitch at the same time and those playing are underperforming.
Rembrandt Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Luiz got so much space because we played 451 but didn't actually know how to deal with the spare Centre half bombing forward. Which was basically comical. We played 4-5-1 with SKD & Ngog ? How did that work - apart from badly ? Was it SKD out wide and Gardner in centre-mid ?
