Do people really believe this shite?

How can we tell if they are practising or not?

Posted

i dont think we have piss poor defenders...

one is a current england international, one has played for england,

ones a belgian international backed up with an icelandic international..

robinson played for the under 21's....

they just dont seem to be playing like they did !!

We have some piss-poor defenders. I'd suggest that has more to do with their inability to defend rather than the lack of coaching in this area.

ricketts said we dont on soccer am.

now i doubt we do nothing, but its certainly not high on the agenda.

arsene has the same belief at arsenal i think you'll find.

so this 'shite' as you put it, does carry some weight.

whereas you are just dismissing anything you dont agree with.

How can you only practice Attacking? Surely thats immpossible!

if you are practising attacking / ball retention / crossing / shooting etc then you need defenders and Goalkeepers to practice against. I doubt very much that they sit there keeping the ball and shooting with no players trying to win the ball back with an open goal.

thats what i thought

im guessing the defenders just play, but they dont analyse what they are doing and improve on it.

i thought it was common knowledge that wenger and arsenal doesnt give a fukc about defending.

I am sure his training is attack heavy.

I doubt they do no defensive analysis though, there fucking loads of em in the back room. We have 2 goalkeeping coaches who must look at the keepers peformance so we MUST do the same defensivly(granted there is little evidence of improvement).

The best i've seen us play this season was first half at Arsenal where Muamba & NRC were an excellent first line of defence, pressing when Arsenal were trying to build & quickly closing any gaps. With this cover we had a solid defensive foundation, we were competing well in the game & all our defenders were playing well.

I'm probably in a minority of one when i think Cahill obviously, but also Steinsson, Ricketts, Knight, Wheater & Robbo are all adequate premiership defenders ( Alonso is useless ) but can't cope when we get overrun & it soon turns into a shambles.

Anyway back to Arsenal - & as soon as we had problems, Coyle's first instinct as always was to replace Muamba, & as always things got worse as we couldn't win the ball back & our defence crumbled.

If Muamba & NRC aren't the first two chosen for Wiggin, I'd begin to doubt that Coyle is learning from his mistakes.

I don't think Coyle should go but there are some serious questions being asked. They looked a shambles on Sunday,

Pick our squad to bits but you will have to agree it is a level above Norwich's who after all were in League 1 the season before last. They are well drilled and defend from the front backwards, they pressed as well as any. Compare that to our lot's showing on Sunday with David Luiz ambling forward in his own time.

Worst case scenario is Coyle is a motivator with no tactical or coaching nouse, think of Paul Ince with an impressive record in the lower leagues who was woefully short at premiership level.

But Coyle has done enough to be given time to put it right, and that fixture list was a bitch.

Robinson's best days are behind him but the rest are as good as most defenders that other teams in the bottom half can field apart from Steinsson, who has played the majority of his career at right back including the last few seasons in the Premier League and still doesn't know how to defend. First goal at Arsenal was down to him deciding that he would go and play in midfield for a while even though we had five other players in there. First goal against Chelsea was down to him not knowing how to mark someone who had spent an entire season with us. He's shite. No amount of coaching will improve him if he can't even get the basics right.

So, in summary, we have four defensive positions and we're woefully short in half of them.

I think Ricketts' return will improve us (but not dramatically) and Alonso is actually worse than Robinson.

Ultimately though, we need to learn how to defend better further up the pitch and learn how to keep the ball. It's an old cliche, but the opposition can't score if we've got the ball. We can't keep posession of the ball.

If you mean Sturridge then Robinson was supposed to be marking him not Steinsson.

Nope. Steinsson was supposed to be marking him.

I think biff means when we conceded the corner, Boswinga got in behind Robinson and won the set piece. Sturridge scored the goal from the corner and GS was meant to be marking him.

Fairy muff.

.. but IMO it was Steinsson's daydreaming that was the most unforgiveable.

I'm absolutely fucking sick and tired of our defenders gifting goals from set-pieces though. It's happened against Man Utd, Norwich (x 2) and now Chelsea.

The day dreaming started by the chelsea penalty area and continued the length of the pitch and nearly half the team were guilty, does not excuse Steinson, though it is a derelection of duty by a group of highly paid and supposedly top footballers.

got to agree with that all defenders do now is to try and stop the opposition getting a run on them instead of actually lookin where the balls goin

and attacking it, one of the basic rules of football as well as not letting the ball bounce it looks like a scene from dam busters in our half sometimes

I thought coyle tried against chelsea with his tactics, he still needs tweaking though. also he wasnt helped by a fuckin diabolical goalkeeper who obviously cant hack it as it was worse than his display at blackburn, I liked the way he put davies wide right of a 5 man midfield which IMO was to attack and bully ashley cole and nod them headers down towards n'gog, he dropped a bollock though by not putting muamba man marking lampard, also he should of put gardner at left back for robinson especially for pace, I liked boyata instead of knight but he was exposed too often by robinson and I would of put mark davies in midfield where gardner played, pratley aint good enough
