We Will Remember Them.....

Featured Replies

Living in Rochdale nothing much surprises me, however this has really got to me.

At 11am today i was working just outside of the town centre, the majority of traffic came to a stand still, people stopped in the street and observed the 2 minutes silence. It made me proud. Halfway through there was two of the loudest bangs ive ever herd followed by a few smaller ones. Just found out that some of our ethnic friends had decided to set of fireworks IN PROTEST.

In protest of fucking what? Do they really think if we had lost world war 2 and was under Nazi occupation now they would be living here on such a cushy number?

I know amnesty day is not just about either of the world wars but its really fucked me off. This country is fucked beyond repair.

Rant over.

I got this sent to me earlier today...i know it is American but maybe this can show some people exactly what it means to have there loved ones home and realise some people are not that lucky.

that can wait for another day todays about those gone.

RIP

Same happened outside my work in Stockport. Scum.

Makes your blood boil but SJM is right. They'll keep.

Today we remember.

Some cunt driving an Armstrongs skip was moving rubble around here at 11am. Sounded like WWI. Ignorant cunt.

Are you sure the bangs weren't maroons let off to mark the start and end of the silence?

I was at Blackrod Cemetary for the remembrance in a working capacity. My job was to watch over the pyrotechnics man and give him the correct times to let off the cannon sounds. I bet some people thought we were doing the same. Horwich and Westhoughton had the same company at theirs.

Went to the Remembrance Day Service at Bolton town centre today. After the service I noticed an A4 page with writing on it at the foot of the Cenotaph:

It read:

Ponder these words:

It is the SOLDIER, not the reporter who has given us freedom of press!

It is the SOLDIER, not the poet who gave us freedom of speech!

It is the Soldier not the campus organiser who has given us the feedom to demonstrate!

It is the SOLDIER who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, who dies under the flag and whose coffin is draped with the flag!

It is the SOLDIER, who allows the protester to burn the flag!

Was on the train approaching Lancaster when the guard told passengers about the two minutes silence, the train crawled for the last mile to give the guard the chance after the silence to tell the passengers that we was stopping at Lancaster. Good lads.

Afraid not, a few were driving through town centre pipping horns.

As said though, maybe i should'nt give them the satisfaction and remember those who have given their lives for us, not them.

Anyone here know Walter Dolphin? I'm guessing that's one of his grandkids. There can't be too many Dolphins in Bolton.

Was listening to jeremy vine on radio 2 today and he played a short programme he had recorded about a young welsh soldier who got killed in 2009. his mum talked about his life and they played some of his favourite music on the radio. have to admit it brought a tear to my eye, truly sad story. not sure if you can get it on bbc i player.

Superb interview on Breakfast on BBC this morning with a 92 year old-soak who survived various prisoner of war camps then got transferred to Dresden, got done for burning the factory down he was forced to work at and so was on the firing squad list but got away after the city got razed. Contrast between what he was "happy" to do in the line of duty of and what he saw to innocents in Dresden was astonishing - all delivered in a matter of fact cockney deadpan. Unfortunately they don't seem to to have it on iplayer, but if it pops up somewhere else it's recommended :good:

I know of one who goes to the odd game.

Maybe it'll make Pick of the Week on Radio 4, Sunday, 6.15pm?

I heard him on the Steve Wright show. He has a book out and there is a tv programme on sometime over the weekend. I will try and locate more info. I was in Dresden last Christmas. It's amazing how it has been rebuilt after being almost completely destroyed.

southend away haha

the site i was on came to a standstill and over 400 lads kept impecable silence, as for the scum hooting etc, well they can think themselves lucky i wasnt in the area as a brick would of gone through the windscreen

in the states they call it Veterans Day so they can still remember who served

Went to the Town Hall Square this morning. Loads of people there. Not all older than me. Silence immaculate.

An old bloke collared me during the week and poked my poppy and asked wether it was time Remembrance Day was abolished.

I told him that when people stopped turning up on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday it would be time to stop remembering. I'm confident that this will never happen. I, along with many more will be there on Sunday.
