Dougie Freedman - New Manager

Bolton News are reporting that Gartside has made an approach for Freedman, but Palace are yet to reply.

The daily mail are also running this story.

Personally would give Jimmy a chance.

  • That just crazy talk mate...lets hound him out before he starts.   Like Zico hinted at,we are a championship club, attracting a top manager without a massive budget is nigh on impossible.   OGS led

I think you need some more intelligent friends...

  • for me, the only mistake there would not have been sacking Coyle sooner, and he even managed to take it to the last day   Lee felt like the right choice at the time, soon as it went tits up, Gartsid

Hang on, I'm confused. No one wants him, but now we're angry he's going somewhere else?

Funny ol' game Greavsie...

@neilashton_: Delay in Bolton naming Dougie Freedman as manager is because they are also negotiating release of Lennie Lawrence + Curtis Fleming.

Replace Sandy Stewart with Lennie Lawrence? What have we done to deserve this?

Blame it on the Doogie.

he'd be better at palace than ipswich

he'll be at bolton when we're ready

i hear theres a bit of a stand off over his assistants at the moment ITK we wont pay compo for them

Are you seriously going to argue with a 9 year old?

who said owt about argueing

Sorry, reason with a nine year old.

Got a filthy mouth for their age too....

A said a said a said.

Palace have ballsed up, They have said Freedman has left, so when they bring in a new manager. he will want to bring in his own men meaning they will have to pay off Lawrence and Fleming, However they want us to pay compo to them to bring them to the Reebok.

Remember Managers are like limited company's not singleton people. Owen Coyle Ltd (Owen and his coaches etc). Sounds like we have agreed terms with Freedman and he hasnt sorted the rest of his team in the deal. Palace then think they are staying to carry on. We have signed Freedman but the rest are not "free men!"

Would not surprise me if Gartside played that card in order to escape paying for the release of Lawrence and Flemming, it's palaces fault for announcing that he had left before all was finalised, no doubt Gartside will use this to his advantage, it benefits Bolton financially but if I was dealing with Gartside I would tread very warily, seems to make a lot of enemies in the business dealings from what I can see, are they all wrong?

Is Freedman and Lawrence a better option than Lee and Phillips I don't think it is and it's cheaper. Gartside Out.

When you look at what we are lacking in the current team, it's a front of house leader. Someone to deal with the critical team talk, draw the club together, be able to deal with players with authority when the going gets tough, negotiate on contracts, know the ropes on the inside.

We have a bloody good coach with bags of experience at all levels in Sammy Lee, we have somebody who knows the players back to front in Jimmy Phillips and we have Julian Darby who knows the Championship well. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I would have gone cap in hand and got Rioch back as Director of Football.

I don't see what Freedman brings us on the coaching front, he is unknown to the fans, wants to bring in two assistants who have hardly been north of Watford and who have virtually no top level experience, (OK I'll give you dear old Lennie Lawrence at Boro).

Sorry to be negative, but I think that it's a monster balls up.

Garty, the Tony Sopranon of the football world

Warnock should but his shovel away, or take his feet out of his mouth

“I came up against him (Freedman) a few times as a player. He was a good player but that doesn’t necessarily mean you are going to be a good manager."

Ooops

I reckon we get the blue spaz chariot back, too.

Can we all start throwing small change at spazzy Darren again?

We're quite pleased with the situation, and amused that Gartside has the gall to complain. Lawrence is in charge for Saturday with Fleming, and we're in no rush to let them go. If you want them you'll have to pay. If you don't, no problems :)

Edited by Heb 7:4

What if we don't want them but have to pay anyway?

With regards to his coaching there was an article knocking around from when he was preparing to play Man U, the article touched on his methods etc, it sounded like he knew what we was doing and a fresh approach, with regards to who he wants to bring in Lawrence has enough experience and would be good foil for Douug, Flemiming I've no idea about. Phillips was doing a sterling job no reason he cannot continue that good work. Isn't Lee required for academy status? Dunno how that changes if he's on first team duties, someone might know? But I'd have Darby deffo involved with his experience alongside Davies I think he needs to be involved as part of the first team

Lawrence has done stints at Bradford and Grimsby, too.

Fleming has coached at Middlesbrough and Livingston.

Not that it makes any difference.
