Dougie Freedman - New Manager

Bolton News are reporting that Gartside has made an approach for Freedman, but Palace are yet to reply.

The daily mail are also running this story.

Personally would give Jimmy a chance.

I think you need some more intelligent friends...

  • for me, the only mistake there would not have been sacking Coyle sooner, and he even managed to take it to the last day   Lee felt like the right choice at the time, soon as it went tits up, Gartsid

Im sure Gartside feels the same, maybe thats him done picking fellas to manage the team now especially if this goes tits up,

Proven shit?

Eggs fackin zackerly! McCarthy by premier standards admittedly has been woeful and I don't get the 'charisma' angle, his press conferences are embarrassing, right up there with Warnock IMHO.

Souness was voted worst manager ever by one quality paper for his management style and Jimmy Krankie well he upset his fair share at Derby & Forest.

Am hoping DF will be the answer, now let's see if the players are as good as we think they are. Onwards and upwards!

Not many people would leave a palace to go to a place that spindles cotton and has houses made of hay.

Not entirely convinced by this appointment, but more than happy to give him a chance.

Actually pretty shocked, and perhaps proud. Freedman is (was) an absolute Palace legend, moreso than Coyle was for us by far. So for him to burn those bridges to come to us speaks volumes.

Bit surprised by this but I will give him my backing now he's here....and he's a lot better than some we've been linked with!

Personally, I'd have gone for Billy Davies - to say he's shit is nonesense - seems to me that Preston Derby and Forest have only declined since he left them but more importantly, he'd have fitted in with the Jim Sammy Ju combo as Ju was with him before.

Still, time to move on....... DFSWA!

On the other hand, if DF does get us up we can have no complaints if the likes of Everton or Sunderland pinch him......we seem to be making a habit of pinching other managers!

Did we email them or did Garty tweet them: Giz ur mgr plz ::lol::

Has Garty not got a fax machine?

I'm sure he mentioned once that he had received a fax.

Link to an interview with Freedman before the game versus United last year:

http://www.telegraph...son-in-cup.html

When we were first linked I was as underwhelmed as anyone, but looking at the names knocking around ther wasn't much on offer at all, and the more I've read about him the more I am encouraged.

Got my full backing.

After the piss-about regime of Coyle and Co. hopefully the following excerpt, from the article above, bodes well (or should I say 'augers' well :) nah, let's forget that phrase).

He’s spent time at Milanello, AC Milan’s famous retreat, admiring their commitment.

“Their players dedicated themselves to training day in, day out. The professionalism was fantastic. They worked so hard.

"I saw one very famous player [Paolo Maldini] doing 20 sprints in the sand and by the end the physio was lifting him up to take him back to the treatment table.

"He was in his late thirties and giving everything. I want my players to aspire to that hard work of the top players.’’

Only 10 months into his new role, Freedman is a manager who leaves nothing to chance...

Bbc manc have said hes not there tonight and it wont be confirmed tonight it weill be tomoz.

That just crazy talk mate...lets hound him out before he starts.

Like Zico hinted at,we are a championship club, attracting a top manager without a massive budget is nigh on impossible.

OGS led the polls, but jesus christ folk are moaning this is a gamble?...what the fuck would you of called that.

Its looking like the mans got the job, youve spent the spent the last year moaning to get the last fella out,now some fuckers are moaning about the new man coming in...

Who the fuck did you want??

I say everybody shut the fuck and get behind this fella, because moaning will get us nowhere.

If you expect failure, failure will be inevitable.

Get a bloody grip you pesimistic fuck sticks.

I was reading through all these pages and getting more and more annoyed, just about to type a big response about how many fuckwits we've got as fans and then I read that you'd pretty much said it all for me Gonzo.

I won't pretend he was my 1st choice, and I doubt he will have been anyones when we 1st sacked Coyle, but he's a shitload better than most of the standard names that have been branded about and could quite easily be very successful for us.

However just because he's Scottish, young, doesn't wear a suit and was fairly successful at his 1st club then its apparently obvious to some that he's just like Coyle and he's a guaranteed failure. Oh and don't forget the main reason, he hasn't got a fancy famous name like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and didn't play for United who for most was their 1st choice and is another young unproven manager (and i'm not having it that winning the Norwegian league makes him anything spectacular).

Get a grip and realise that we were never going to get some amazing name that everyone would have been happy with, and just because Jimmy Phillips won his game in charge nor does that mean that he would have been any better an appointment than Freedman will be. I hope he keeps the current trio in the coaching staff but I won't slaughter him if he brings his own men in.

He's got a completely clean slate for me and I'll wait to make my own mind up on him after decent amount of time. DFSWA!

Underwhelmed this morning, but he gets my full backing, best of luck to him and best of luck to Phil G.

Right 3 points against wolves please coywm!

just read this on the palace forum, Bolton are NOT a bigger club than us

"Even though they spent a good few years in the Prem. They are almost £150m in debt too. Bizarre. confused.gif,"

bloody hell our debt is worse than i thought!!!! :glare:

I just don't understand it.

We used to be a club that gave new managers a chance. I'm thinking McGovern, Wright, Neal.

Then we sort of realised that this was a shite idea and started going for blokes with a bit of experience (Rioch, Todd, Allardyce).

Maybe we'll strike gold this time eh?

The club doesn't change but the directors do & they make the decisions.

Clearly palace don't have the financial clout to stave off our interest or give freedman a realistic chance of getting them up he knows that zaha and other promising youngsters will be sold in Jan - from what the palace chairman said they're being run similar to Blackpool so fair enough on that maybe it is wrong - loyalty is not a blank cheque

If he keeps sammy and jim I'll be we'll happy they've shown in a fortnight they've forgot more than amateur coyle knew - onwards and upwards now Freedman is a white - welcome good luck and I'm 100% behind you and as gonzo so eloquently put those fans who are having a good moan get behind us or fuck off - dinosaurs like McCarthy can go to perennial shithouses like Burnley, Wigan, Blackpool or Preston we are BWFC we've done more in the last 15 years than they can fooking dream about yes we've had a blip but that clowns gone have some pride and let's get back up there

Great post.

Never seen this Appleton bloke we were linked with until today...

He looks like a bloody smackhead.

Looks like Scouse smack head to me

I'm the same as many on here. I'm not unhappy about it, far better than Souness etc, but I see it as a risk from the board.

We have to go back up this year - PG has said as much, the business plan no doubt says as much and the Sky money going up next year says as much.

So its a pretty bold move in that sense.

However, on the basis that I reckon he will probably train the players occasionally, could possibly play them mostly in their correct positions and might even bother looking at the opposition each week then I am happy to get excited again.

A radical approach that might just work.

Promotion this season is not so important, yes it would be nice, but not esssential, what is essential is promotion in the next season, after that the TV money becomes less, and the Premiership payments increase, relagated teams have a huge advantage, its do or die over the next 2 seasons.

Seconded, have a +1 :)

Whilst the payment thing is true I disagree

If we don't go up this season there is a very good chance that the squad will break up

Our best players may well not stick around for a second season

And just speculation, but

Despite the parachute payments, we may only be budgeting for 1 season in the Championship....i'd say this is likely partly due to the sacking of Coyle....

Next season 3 new teams come down with ex Prem squads and parachute payments

IMO next season will be alot tougher and I for one think the club know it too

Spot on Jules.

I think it's very difficult to think of a club who has come down and lost essentially no key players as a result. We have to take advantage of the fact that we are at least as strong as we were last year.

Maybe, but I wonder .....

Given what things have been like on the pitch for the last 18 months, who are these "best players [who] may well not stick around for a second season" ?

And do the likes of Reading, Southampton, Norwich actually have genuine "Prem squads" that we should be worried about ?

The clock ticking on the parachute payments is the most important thing. There's not much margin for error. But it doesn't necessarily mean promotion this season.

And anyway what does our 'plan' say about how we DON'T put another £7m a year on the already ginormous debt back in the Prem, should we get there ?
