barmyarmy Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Bolton News are reporting that Gartside has made an approach for Freedman, but Palace are yet to reply. The daily mail are also running this story. Personally would give Jimmy a chance. Quote
RUREADY2ROLL Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Should give Jimmy Philips a few weeks and if it goes well then until the end of the season Freedman wouldn't want to come to us; he is Palace through and through Quote
barmyarmy Posted October 21, 2012 Author Posted October 21, 2012 He's palace through and through but reportedly met with Gartside. Quote
miamiwhite Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 palace fans getting upset on www.holmesdale.net/ saying typical, leaving when things are on the up for them Quote
Didledee Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 So what's he's done that's so good? I'm guessing his biggest achievement was beating us. If this happens, then maybe we will go for Zaha again and DF may help with that. Quote

Zaha won't be going to any club outside the Premiership, and I'm not sure you can afford him to be honest. It'll be an eight figure sum. I don't think Dougie will be going to you either. Sensible of your chairman to want him, as he has bags of talent and has reshaped our team from scrabbling at the foot of the table to an exciting outfit that's a joy to watch, but he's also Palace through and through. Think you're being used as a bargining chip to get himself a new contract. Quote

Not saying you're wrong but IMO the only thing that you have got going for you in why he would choose to stay is his love for the club. Apart from that we've got a better stadium, better training facilities, 11 consecutive seasons in the perm, better squad, better chances of promotion, better chance of staying up if we do get there. If all those are still worth less than his allegiance to Palace than fair fucks to him, you don't often see that loyalty in the game any more. Quote
MalcolmW Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 we will be premiership in 12 months time though Palace are 4th, so don't discount their own aspirations. One good thing is that Freedman has Lennie Lawrence as assistant, and he is far more likely to step in as a temp than follow his 'boss'. Of course it is a moot point as to how much of their form is due to Freedman's enthusiasm and how much to Lawrence's experience. Quote
Heb 7:4 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 we will be premiership in 12 months time though You may. Experience tells me that newly relegated teams often don't go straight back up though. We should know, we've been relegated from the Prem more times than anyone else! I think the average each year is one relegated team going back up. If you don't go back up before the parachute money runs out, then you get into real trouble (like Charlton did). But I don't think it's your prospects that are really the issue. I just think Dougie has too much history with us. He's publicly spoken of how, as a player, he always regretted leaving (he came back and went on to score over 100 goals for us). He begged Southend to release him so he could come back and be a coach when the opportunity came up. I think he'll move on one day, but I just don't think a move to another Championship club will tempt him. I think we'll see him signing a new improved deal at Palace before the end of the week. Quote

I think the only thing that will keep him here is that he is genuinely attached to the club. If he was managing any other Championship club, I think he'd be off to you in a shot. Quote
onefinfrandsen Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 If we are going down the root of nicking other teams managers then gartside should be putting all his energies into grabbing holloway. reading between the lines in his latest interview he fancies a move from blackpool and the dingles are sniffing around. like the idea of freedman but he has no expierience of getting teams promoted. Casino Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 (edited) can't argue with much the palace interloper has said but i think he'll come to us if we want him zaha will not cost anybody more than 6 million - even wigan only dragged 9 million out of chelsea for the former palace man, moses Edited October 21, 2012 by Casino Quote

I'm not really fussed either way at the moment to be honest, I realise he's doing well at the moment but so did Coyle for a bit. From the sounds of it you lot would be gutted to see him go, but is it down to the fact that he is a club hero or the fact that you genuinely rate his a a good up and coming manager? Quote

From the sounds of it you lot would be gutted to see him go, but is it down to the fact that he is a club hero or the fact that you genuinely rate his a a good up and coming manager? Both really. He has always been a fan favourite, not just for the number of goals he scored (and the quality of them), but also for their importance (play-offs to get us promoted, against Stockport to stop us getting relegated on the last day of a season). He played through administration, took time to work with the youth team, clearly was gutted to leave and overjoyed to return. All that stuff made him a legend. After our last administration he became assistant manager, under a disastrous George Burley, then took over from Burley and has turned us from being total gash into one of the most exciting and enjoyable Palace teams in years. Took us to the league cup semi-final last year too (beating Man U at Old Trafford on the way). Also undefeated in our derby matches v Brighton and Millwall Like Zaha still learning his trade, but it's fair to say his leaving would hurt more than Wilfs. He's a Palace legend. Quote
Farnywhite Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Leave him at palace he is just playing with the palace fans to make himself look an even more of a hero when he comes out public and turns us down just after he as just pocketed a large pay rise out of there chairman for agreeing to stay there To inexperienced for us anyway . Fair points and pretty much exactly what my Palace mate said when I text him giving him some shit about it, but I wanted to know if that was the general feeling within Palace fans and it seems it is. I wouldn't mind him coming here, there are certainly a lot of names branded about that I'd prefer him to, but Holloways still my choice for the job. Quote

Guest Blixa Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 7 months left on his deal, time you negotiate for a better one at the present club. He'll be playing us like a grand piano. Well done him. Quote
DazBob Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Must admit, the thought of Freedman doesn't particularly excite me, but I'll be willing to give him a chance. I just hope everyone else does likewise ... but I doubt it. Out of interest, do we know if he's hungry? Quote
