When you look at what we are lacking in the current team, it's a front of house leader. Someone to deal with the critical team talk, draw the club together, be able to deal with players with authority when the going gets tough, negotiate on contracts, know the ropes on the inside.

 

We have a bloody good coach with bags of experience at all levels in Sammy Lee, we have somebody who knows the players back to front in Jimmy Phillips and we have Julian Darby who knows the Championship well. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

 

I would have gone cap in hand and got Rioch back as Director of Football.

 

I don't see what Freedman brings us on the coaching front, he is unknown to the fans, wants to bring in two assistants who have hardly been north of Watford and who have virtually no top level experience, (OK I'll give you dear old Lennie Lawrence at Boro).

100% spot on rational thought process says your right even getting Bruce Rioch in as director of football is bang on the money, Rioch is a top guy still only 64 coached in champs league 3-4 years back and would be great in that role, fuck knows what Gartside and Davies are thinking, one more thing Flemming coaching do me a favour fuckin crap footballer and would not want him near my coaching set up.

From Freedman's perspective I imagine he sees them as two people he can trust not to be sharpening knives behind his back. Difficult enough to have to take over a team in turmoil without having to worry about forming new relationships with coaching staff who may or may not be happy you got the job.

No one knows what's happening anyway. The BEN is intimating that Lee and Darby could stay with the 1st team whilst Phillips goes back to the academy. Lets wait and see what happens and back the staff and players when they are put in place, rather than writing them off before they've bloody started.

I'd hazard a guess that Fleming has more top flight appearances than Darby and Phillips put together.

Just because we don't know anything about Lawrence and Fleming doesn't mean they aren't good coaches as part of Freedman's team. No problem with them coming in at all and Lawrence is very experienced. The compensation will be insignificant I expect. Palace fans might say Phillips was a terrible footballer, doesn't mean he can't coach.

 

It would seem much better to keep the academy set up unchanged for the time being.

 

Thought Darby is only short term based on his interviews, only way he'd have been here long term was if Billy Davies got the job, or never got another.
