Settle An Argument With A Wiganer

can anybody with a BWFC memory back to the early 80s help?

a claim I made to a fan of Wigan has been dismissed out of hand but I'm sure my memory is not playing tricks.

First time we ever played Wigan was on Boxing Day in 83'. My recollection is that we had the vast majority of the 10000 gate and Bolton fans pretty much populated three sides of Springfield Park. This is being denied as never having happened.

Was anybody else there? Can you remember?

Is there a reason why you're even getting into a conversation with him?

You're right and he's a twat.

Traf is correct on both counts

I can't remember going to Springfield Park when it wasn't like that.

Every time we went we outnumbered them, check there average attendance that season add a 500-600 to that attendance and the rest would have been Bolton I would guess about 5500-6000 Bolton

I know that grassy bank behind the goal was jammed and the main stand (cowshed) was full of our lot.I'm sure that was their record attendance at the time, first time they had got a five figure crowd? As i remember it we outnumbered them, must be true . The other time we were all over their shithole wasthat time Tony Kelly scored when we were on the up, we were everywhere that day too. Seem to remember Andy Walker scoring the other but I might be mixed up. I hate Wigan more than any other club and can't stand them being above us, just not right. Hopefully not for much longer.

Well old man has seen Horwich entertain Wigan at Grundy Hill not long prior so tell him that and then tell him to fuck off

Remember the Tony Kelly occasion clear as day. Bolton fans behind both goals and in the Main Stand. However my memory is that in the 83/4 the outnumbering of Wigan was even more acute.

They are pretty monosyllabic conversations.

He's the type you'd mark down as being from Wigan within seconds of meeting him.

I remember an FA cup match against Wigan at Springfield Park in 1969 or 70. Can't remember the result though

i was in there end boxing day 84 along with many more.

remember an offlicence being pillaged in town centre and bolton everywhere on the way up there. lad i knew by face then had his jeans ripped off almost when he was bit by a police dog. i was chucked out when they scored and it kicked off and i was punched off a couple of friendly scouse coppers on that waste land outside for good measure. remember plenty of lads were going on to ewood to watch blackburn v leeds as we were an early kick off.

I'm sure that we didn't play them until that Boxing Day in 83

Don't remember as many Bolton being there that day - a year on to the day! McElhinney scored a very early own goal and it was grim for the remainder. Remember that day far better than the 83 one for some reason.

just read highest attendance at the old shit hole was 10045 agenst us

Away end was was more than packed. I was in the wigan end at the opposite end. Bolton everywhere. Them days, in the home bit, you could walk around from one part to the other. The Wigan fans were mostly behind the end I was at. I would say it wasn't far off 50/50 in the home end that day. I went on the coach from the Albion. Like I did for most games that season - Happy day.

Mid 80s I was on halfway line left of Bolton end when it went off and we got walked into Bolton end by the filth you can see this on the old match videos. Remember it goin off behind home goal as well with pie eatin twats getting leathered with 1 Bolton lad with a crash helmet on goin mental . Piss funny

We always outnumbered them at that fucking shitheap.

Didn't hear a peep out of them, apart from something about hating wigan rugby.

they just cowered in that stable opposite the "main stand".

They're a league above us, which should be an acute reminder of the damage Coyle did.

They played common people by Paul young at half time, Boxing Day 84!

I was wearing my new blue tracksuit!

So something's dont change much!

It was my first experience of bolton taking the home end!

Just shoot the fucker dead then enjoy the silence.

Ask him has he shagged his sister [or his brother]

Wigginers turning on their own again I see :D
