February 6, 201313 yr I have a friend who taught at Moston Brook for over 25 years, until it was closed. As well as teacing special needs (!!) he coached the cross-country teams. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it myself, but there were boys who would play truant from school and then go in for training at 4pm.
February 6, 201313 yr Spent years thinking it was pronounced in a posh way! Then started doing volunteer dog walking at Manchester dogs home, a scary area!

February 6, 201313 yr I've never seen TOWIE (as the tards call it), but I thought they were actors. Are they not? IIRC it's a similar deal to Jersey Shore where these characters are put into situations by the producers and filmed for 'entertainment'. it's not quite fly on the wall reality nor is it acting.
February 6, 201313 yr Im not willing to find out! Going through Hulme in a car when i was a youngster with my uncle to pick up his nephew in the early 60s at the airport was an eye opener, never seen nothing like it. The area got flattened and got the infamous cresents a few years later, then they got demolished., but you still get the same folk in the area so how much you patch things up.
February 6, 201313 yr Moss Side and Hulme are still the scary areas of Manc, believe me, Hulme has had so much investment it's a decent place to live these days. Full of students and young professionals

February 6, 201313 yr Hulme has had so much investment it's a decent place to live these days. Full of students and young professionals I worked on Hulme after the cresents fell, but i do hope it's a decent place. Because the area nearby was a wank hole.

February 6, 201313 yr IIRC it's a similar deal to Jersey Shore where these characters are put into situations by the producers and filmed for 'entertainment'. it's not quite fly on the wall reality nor is it acting. exactly, i'm not going near it. see enough shit in real life to depress me without folk exaggerating it for TV.
February 6, 201313 yr I've lived on Salford precinct, Longsight, Blackfriars, Gorton. Moston/Harpurhey border and Walkden. It's no wonder I'm such a cunt really.... Oh, and Blackley :-) Edited February 6, 201313 yr by blackleywhite

I agree, it wasn't an area that you'd want to walk through on your own but there is a massive change these days. Man Met have put the bulk of their student accommodation there so, apart from the usual drunken misbehaviour,I'd have no issues in my kids living there
February 6, 201313 yr You really need to get out to brothels more But they give such a good service mind numbing tv for all Edited February 6, 201313 yr by Big E

February 7, 201313 yr Little wonder the guy who wrote clockwork orange is from there. Have you got tunnel vision?
February 7, 201313 yr I've worked at various fire stations around there and turned out to a house fire in Harpurhey once. I thought I'd stepped into a Shameless set. I'll set the scene; A balmy summer evening, air still warm and all the residents were on the same side of the street catching the last rays of sunshine. I got the impression they'd all been on the booze all day and had caught the early sunshine in the opposite gardens. Kids riding about on trikes and scooters with nothing on except their nappy. as they fell off someone would shout, "Hey,Shazzor, your Britney's fell off that fuckin scooter again! Shazzor rushes out and rather than help, would stand over Britney and tell her, "Gerrup yer mard arse an if yer don't stop skrieking I'll give yer summat fert' skriek about" anyway, the fire: Young single mum was out 'at work' so grandma was babysitting. Grandma puts chip pan on and then back outside to carry on sunbathing and drinking. Suddenly, someone notices the smoke billowing out of the mid-town house. One of them phoned 999 We got there to cheers and applause and then Grandma realises her grandchild is still in the house fast asleep. It's panic stations now. Certainly puts the mockers on the drinking session when you think your best mate has possibly lost their child in a fire. They got lucky because, due to the sunshine, the grandma had draped a bath towel over the pram to block out the bright evening sun. Meanwhile, someone had phoned the young mother who came back home and ended up fighting her own mum in the street. I was wide-eyed and dumbstruck. I'd never seen anything like it, even in Top o'th' Brow or Johnny Fow.
