September 3, 201312 yr His time at Bolton co-incided with my earliest days watching the Wanderers. I don't honestly remember how good he was but he held down a place in the first division team that survived with Franky Worthy as top scorer in 78/9. If I have one memory it would him scoring at home against Leeds in 1978 as Bolton turned a 0-1 half time deficit in to a 3-1 home win amidst ever worsening scenes of bedlam on the terraces. Always really sorry to hear news like this about players from my era as a Bolton fan, Chris Thompson being another recent sad loss.

Housebricks to and fro from the Emankment to the Burnden Paddock. 3-1 to us by that stage. That Leeds team was a pretty good one so for Smith to have played a part in a team that beat them so well ... he can't have been a bad un on his day.

Smith had a great game that day... possibly our best player in a very memorable game of football. Sad to hear of is passing at such a young age. I was in the embankment that day (or one half of it) ... me and my brother (and his mate who was a Leeds fan) were sat on the fence at the front when lots of the Leeds fans climbed over. I remember my brothers mate went back over the fence with the Leeds fans ha ha I was absolutely overjoyed when we scored the second and third goals ... great days ... thank you Brian and RIP
September 3, 201312 yr Always sad to hear of a Wanderer, who i remember watching, passing away. And at such a young age. He wasn't a great player, but he was good enough for us at the time. RIP.
