The Forgotten Great Games You Went

Obviously loads that get talked about regularly from euro trips to play off finals. What about the ones that didn't mean a lot but were still cracking days out?

Southampton away in 2003/4 - came from behind to win, Nolan and Davies in front of what seemed like 2/3000 whites.

Stoke away a few years back -came from behind with Matty Taylor getting both

City away just before Christmas - Anelka took the piss all day, as did the travelling support.

Them were the days, million miles from where us and city are now

Wigan home and away. FRT semi-final. They were a decent team at the time and we were hopeless but we won both legs. We outnumbered them at their place and we even had a five figure crowd on for the second leg, which rarely happened in those days. To cap it all, i got on the pitch at the end of the second leg.

Sunderland away in the cup last year. We dicked em start to finish.

Qpr opening day was a belter a couple years ago

Everton 0 Bolton 4

2005 I think.

Fucking top day.

Our fans didn't stop singing from start to Finnish.

Ipswich in the play offs when we got a result - the only time I think I've ever lost track of the score.

Saints away first day of the season with the sun blazing down and us resplendent in purple as Blakey got us off to a flyer.

Stoke at the Victoria Ground for a night match in the 100 goals season when Blake got sent off, SJM turned in arguably his best performance and Jamie Pollock pre-dated tika-taka by ten years.

The Norwich game in the 1994/95 season gets a bit lost amid the Swindon/Wolves/Reading triumvirate, but it was fucking ace for David Lee's goal alone.

Which reminds me - the comeback in the home tie with Southampton before Felgate's flap at the Milton Road end was ace, too.

Fuck me, there's loads.

Darren Eadie broke his leg during that Norwich game if my memory serves me right.

Smashing Bury 4-0 at Reebok late 90's

Both Swindon games in the league cup episode at Burnden were great to watch considering we were shit and they were a top division 2 side at the time or whatever our current league was called at the time.

Bolton 8 Walsall 1

3-0 vs Huddersfield 98/99. Early in the season but they were unbeaten and brought about 4,000. Gunlauggsson ran the show that day.

Leicester away in the coca cola cup or whatever it was back then. Won 3-2, think Curcic scored the winner after we had been battered. My mate got nicked for running on the pitch. I nearly got twatted by some Leicester fans in a pub before the game. Started drinking early doors as I lived there at the time, which also explains why I can't remember much at the time

wrong thread

4-3 away win at Blackburn, 3-1 down first half, came back to win and missed chances to make it 5 near the end. One of our best days at Ewood

Rarely mentioned, and the result went against us in the end, but the Chelsea game a few years back when we were 4-0 down and got it back to 4-3 and a Bolton boot stopped the equalizer.

Southampton away won 1-0 1998 boiling hot cracking day.

Probably well remembered by a lot but Even though it was a loss - saints away in the cup (Barry F-info Horne).... Is a match that sprung to mind when reading this thread and brought a smile to my face.

Being the only Wanderer in my school I took a lot of stick from fans who never went to a match (usually it was "Bolton who?" and feeling sorry for little old Bolton?)

The whole experience of leaving school early with a fake doctors note off my dad.. The number of coaches going down on a Tues/Weds.... The pub right outside the dell swamped with Wanderers. Goose bumps as the team coach went past to a Hero's welcome. The landlord telling my dad that Arsenal & Scum didn't fill the pub as much as we did! Standing in the middle section behind the goal being swept along in waves of movement. The night sky coming over those weird stands behind both goals. The atmosphere and songs I had never heard before but would sing for many years following

The joy, jubilation then ultimate heart break of the extra time loss.

The long trip home in the dead of night, but waking for school the following day feeling I had personally achieved and experienced something no one in my school would ever experience.

I have lots of mates who are Reds who may have had good nights off the back of their teams success but they will never experience the trips I had with my dad and for that I feel sorry for them

Carlisle away in our only season in the old 4th division won't be classed as a great game by many but for the 300 or so Whites who made the trip to Brunton Park that day,it should be remembered as a pivotal point in that season.

There weren't many matches left and it was vital we won

We won 2-0 and remained in touch the chasing pack at te top of the table.

Looking back the 3 points there were priceless,JT scored, can't remember the other scorer,it was bloody cold, only the warm beer helped to heat our bodies. I think the away section in those days was at the side of the pitch

We need to get points on the board ASAP,Carlise was and always will be a shithole

0-3 at home to notts county week before frt final v bristol - softcore retired to the pub, i saw us draw

northampton away, back from 2 down to win

chesterfield in the cup, possibly a monday night, another comeback from 2 down to win

very messy over the tops lock in :)

Same season I think? 3-2 at home on a Tuesday night v Fulham after being 2 down. Think big Trev got the winner.

Aye, late volley from just inside the box in front of a packed Lever End.

And when I say packed, I mean a good 40 or 50.

Great games, as were all the Wigan away ones at this time. Think this one at Springfield Park was a few days after Chernobyl. Remember the chat going up when it started raining - "we've got radiation, we've got radiation you've not etc". Quality.

Sheff Wed at home in 98, won 3-2! First win in about 15 games, massive three points!

Also remember beating Blackburn at home in the same season, excellent win!

That's a great recollection of that night and I still don't blame Felgate as we were directly behind the shot and saw it swerve all over the place. Went with some bloke called Disrali!
