I heard a belting one the other day. Basically it was suggesting that, and bear with me. Any civilisation reaching a certain level of technological advancement will need to leave it's home star system eventually as they will have used up all it's resources. To leave their star system they will need to develop spaceships that can travel at close to the speed of light. Travelling at close to the speed of light also hugely increases the amount of time that travels for the person travelling relative to the observers. Time dilation and all that. So therefore - there are loads of civilisations - they've just all achieved close to speed of light travel and have therefore sped themselves off into the far future. One day - we'll figure out a way of doing it too and when we stop - we'll encounter all these other civilsations - billions of years into the future. Is that an observer's year or the traveler's year? Quote

Imagine if they had chosen Youri as a representative example of humanity. They’ll never come back, that’s for certain. Aye, that's the Fermi Paradox fettled - they took Youri off to their temporary base near Neptune and used advanced quantum computing to probe his mind in order to ascertain whether interacting with humans was possible or even desirable. Once said quantum computer started singing "Daisy, Daisy...My God, it's full of stars" after 10 minutes connected to his hypothalamus, they put us in Galactic Lockdown, slapped a banning order on Earth travel and then fucked off back to Andromeda sharpish. There is an obscure cult back on their home planet that worships him as a God - but they're usually written off as the "beryllium foil hat brigade"... Quote
Rudy Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 Meet Earendel, the most distant star ever detected 8 The star, imaged by the Hubble telescope, shone just 900 million years after the Big Bang Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Intriguing that. As sound can't travel through space, I wonder what it actually is that they are recording- some radio wave clearly and converting that into a sound? Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Not quite space technology, but hypersonic weapons/travel research footage. Don't blink. Quote

SatanGreavsie Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Well the word galaxy does originate from breast milk, so they are in fact mapping out the oldest/biggest/most interesting tits in the Universe. Bit like Leigh White on one of his bus trips. Quote

Cheese Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 (edited) They're doing a White House press briefing in an hour (10:30pm BST) previewing the first images from the James Webb Telescope. Full-colour images released tomorrow. You can watch it live here: https://www.nasa.gov/nasalive Here's the youtube livestream. Edited July 11, 2022 by Cheese Quote

Cheese Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 Fucking hell. The probability that we are alone in the Universe is virtually zero. I already knew that, but that James Webb image..... incredible. That image covers a single grain of sand if you held it at arms-length and looked at the sky. And that's only a preview. Quote
TroySwoosh Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 It's amazing, just downloaded the 4k image and zooming in is mind blowing can't wait for the rest of the images Quote
