Youri McAnespie Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Shoddy though sometimes, last time i was in A+E they left a fuckload of Morphine shots unattended within the reach of my grubby mitts - I could've filled my pockets and scarpered... Quote
Guest Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Yeah, because they're always stood on picket lines - public sector workers are pissed off because the goalposts are constantly shifting... It'd be fair enough, if they were wealth creating enterprises -they aren't, that's the crux of the argument. How can you impose performance related pay/incentive/pensions scale in vocational jobs? That's why the crime rate in the USA is soaring, detectives get paid on arrest rate, one who arrests 30 crackheads for possession will earn more than a homicide detective working a single case of murder - is that sensible? People are leaving the vocational professions in droves - fire service, teaching, nursing, policing...They know when they signed up what the script was regarding pay - the goalposts are constantly shifting tho'. Horseshit They have had more out than the country can afford (pay and pensions). The balance has still not been corrected. I really don't think many of them join as a vocation and fewer still will stay because of it. Quote
Winchester White Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Like in any job there are good and bad but on the whole nurses do a good job IMO. Oh and they arent glorified carers as they need a degree and diploma these days Quote

Wealth creation by shuffling money about, horseshit, walk around town, our town...We get fuck all from the City of London, the real wealth creators hands are shackled... Quote

Youri McAnespie Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) Really? The disparity between regions is so stark, but you can't see it? Reaganomics/Thatcherism = if an industry is failing let it die... Oh, but not the banks, they don't count. Multitudes of skilled workers sat twiddling their thumbs - then some c*nt who can count to a hundred pulling in a six figure salary... They sell off the profitable arm of Royal Mail and we, the taxpayer, get to keep the pension deficit. I'm alreet Jack... Edited February 28, 2014 by Youri McAnespie Quote

Winchester White Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Why do carers get fuck all money? Why do cleaners get paid less than IT engineers? Its all down to skill sets and supply & demand. Do I think some carers deserve more money? Sure, but while there are always others available to fill the demand wages wont rise. Quote

Quote
Youri McAnespie Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Explain how it benefits Bolton, or Bradford or i dunno, Inverness, now? Props up a jobless underclass without any hope of decent employment... If you're lucky and a grafter you'll get by... We're in the same boat as the former industrial cities in North America - Flint, Detroit, Chicago - the Keynesian model of drip down doesn't work. Crossrail, H2, The Olympics, Media City - all mean precisely fuck all... Genuine wealth creators, folk willing to give others a decent paying job in exchange for a day's graft are few and far between and constricted at every point. Undercut by cowboys and other sundry fuckers. This sounds all scouse but it's true, they don't give a single solitary fuck about the North (tory and labour), and Scotland, fuck me, if Salmond get's his way we'll all be fucked. Quote
Casino Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 as usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle if folk start from 'all nurses are saints' theres nowt to discuss, imo Quote

I was very, very peturbed... Quote
Ghana White Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 as usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle if folk start from 'all nurses are saints' theres nowt to discuss, imo exactly, you'll be amazed how lazy some are but if you think they get paid too much you need to lay off the glue sniffing or try doing it for a day. This public v private debate is ridiculous, talk about divide and conquer Quote

Maggie Tate Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Why do carers get fuck all money? Because it's a piss easy job. It might be unpleasant, but it is in fact a very easy thing to feed someone soup, wipe their bottom or push them around a shop. I could do any of those three things for free and to the same standard as someone who wasted four years of their life at a polytechnic 'learning' about it between repeats of 15 to 1. Who knows, maybe I will have to for my mother one day. The reason anybody pays large sums for any service is because they are not capable or not inclined to do it for themselves. Anyone capable of reading aloud could be a teacher nowadays and do not a lot worse than the current crop in most schools. There's a reason every feckless drop-out I knew at college and university is now one. And usually they say things like 'you should spend a fortnight teaching.' I should be so fucking lucky. As if a fortnight in front of delinquent council estate thugs without an ounce of discipline or the support of senior management would change my mind. Teachers get all the disrespect they deserve. Of course they're let down by the system, but guess what, that's made up of teachers as well and was designed by them. The brightest pupils are held back in every single class. They would be better left to their own devices in a good library, so long as their parents had done what every decent parent should do and taught them to read and behave. Teachers are supposed to be paid, I thought, to perform a specialist function which good parents cannot reasonably be expected to. And yet... Quote
maaarsh Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Not specifically Teachers, but... I particularly like how most of the gap grew right at the time they all started moaning about how restrained they were being on pay. 2008-10 were the start of reality for most of us, but the height of the party for the public sector it seems. jules_darby Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 Maaaaarsh, where's that from pretty please? Quote
Exiled Girl Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Nothing to do with the lower paid public sector workers being taken out of the public sector & put into the private sector due to outsourcing of the aforementioned lower paid jobs Quote
maaarsh Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 That argument would be a lot more persuasive if the number of public sector employees hadn't increased by 200,000 in that same time period. Quote
