Andydee Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Presume the spelling and grammar errors in that report have been included on purpose. Not as bad as the BN though. What will the english standard of reporters be in another 10 yrs? Quote
Andydee Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Coincidentally, just seen on news proposal that kids start learning a second language from 7 years old. Quote

MalcolmW Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 My youngest cant go to school tomorrow as the reception teacher is on strike, all the other teachers are working They need to get in the fucking real world No doubt you will get the opportunity to speak to her (about this in particular) at a Parent's Evening - even if this is scheduled at 3.30pm. Andydee Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 My kids, and now grandkid's school have never had any teacher go out on strike. Will be a very sad day if they ever do. Danny's hair related question is pertinent. Will the 2nd language be prescribed by where someone lives, standard across all schools or will each school decide what to teach. When I was at school we could do EITHER french or german, ignoring Latin that everyone did. Later there was an option to do spanish, one of the reasons being that a third of the worlds languages are based on some form of it. These days it seems mandarin is getting popular due to the economic growth in that area. Quote
Andydee Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 No doubt you will get the opportunity to speak to her (about this in particular) at a Parent's Evening - even if this is scheduled at 3.30pm. Parent's evening is one thing that has changed at their school for the worse, imo, as it is now held during the day!! So instead of 1 teacher per class giving up 3 hours of an evening, 40 odd parents need to request time off work if they want to attend. Quote
Danny G Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 At my school it was either Spanish or French, dependent on which 'Band' you were assigned to. Quote

wanderer13 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Problem is that people think all teachers are lazy and actually want the strike. i know many teachers who work stupid hours and hate having to strike to fight for the rights of their lazy colleagues. They would welcome performance related pay. teachers have to be linguists, baby-sitters, social workers, psychologists, sometimes even police, even before they can think about teaching. Quote
only1swanny Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Its working conditions. . Not work related benefits. Performance related pay. Data collection. Removal of teaching assistants. Constantly changing goalposts. New curriculum year on year. Challenging pupils with no parental backup. Easy to scream laziness but there are reasons behind it. Quote

There are plenty of other ways to make a point without resorting to throwing your bottom lip out and toddling off to the Trafford centre. Quote
no balls Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Didn't we go through this before when they said it wasn't about money and it turned out it was, or was that the firemen? Quote
Not in Crawley Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Didn't we go through this before when they said it wasn't about money and it turned out it was, or was that the firemen? We go over this regularly. Its a WW fav. I think some folk on here may have been abused by their teachers. Can we not just have one thread called 'Striking Cunts' and whomever is on strike that month can be vilified? Quote

MalcolmW Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Sounds Good to me. No doubt the tube drivers will go on strike soon as a mark of respect for Comrade Crowe The particular problem with RMT in the near future is that Crow isn't there. He was a tough negotiator, but he could deliver. As he has died young and suddenly there has ben no grooming (maybe an unfortunate choice of word) of a successor. There is a real prospect that the new leader will have all Crow's left wing credentials without his ability to strike a hard bargain, or indeed ever agree to anything. Quote
