It looks like Zat's instrumental part in our recent upturn in form is to be rewarded with a 12 month extension on his current contract which is due to expire at the end of the season.

Despite taking a 40% pay cut after relegation, he and his agent seem to have agreed a further 10% drop in wages for next season for a 12 month deal, which will renew automatically if he starts 30 games next time around.

I was at The Lowry yesterday afternoon and I saw Zat, his agent, DF and PG in discussion, but the details of the proposed deal were given to me by a journalist friend of ours.

Looks like good business to me, keeping an experienced defender on the books at a reduced salary.

Far better than Mills anyway and probably still our best centre-half.

If he's willing to take a further reduction in wages, the it would be madness not to get him signed up for another 12 months. It would probably cost us upwards of £2M (that we don't have) to bring in like for like, so we should be doing our upmost to keep him.

I think we won three and the timing might seem fortuitous for Zat re: a new deal, but you can't blame him/the club for wanting it sorted ASAP.

He is the scapegoat for many, the fucking arguments I have when people blame him for things that are clearly not his fault, blinkered cunts.

The worst and most aggressive was when Cahill fucked up against Portsmouth and the Cunt behind me blamed Zat.

Don't get me going about the Booing he  received against Boro.

I'd have thought that we could ring more value from the money

does this wage drop remove him from the deadwood list?

not convinced that this will improve his concentration

still, probably means we def won't be going in for dawson any time soon so can put that one firmly to bed

would this mean we have no CBs leaving in the summer? continuity is good

I don't rate Knight at all and wouldn't want him to stay for free. Granted he's played ok the last couple of games but given Tierney should be fit next season, we will have Ream, Mills & Wheater there with Bolger if he's any good as back up and that's if we don't sign anyone else.

Thanks for your efforts Zat but its a toodle pip from me

Knight started 43 of the 46 league games last season, so comparison is pointless.

However:

11/12

Knight v ABK

GAMES: 21 v 17

WON: 19.0% v 35.3%

DREW: 14.3% v 17.6%

LOST: 66.7% v 47.1%

CLEAN SHEETS: 9.5% v 5.9%

CONCEDED: 2.00 v 2.06 (average per game)

13/14

Knight v ABK

GAMES: 17 v 17

WON: 17.6% v 35.3%

DREW: 29.4% v 41.2%

LOST: 52.9% v 23.5%

CLEAN SHEETS: 11.8% v 29.4%

CONCEDED: 1.94 v 1.00 (average per game)

As I'm sure he'd tell you himself

Ream has been poor for a while, but whilst Zat plays, the pressure is off the rest of them.

Good (by BN standards) piece on ZK in BN today.

If these details are accurate, which I suspect they are mate.

Then it's a no brainer.

Be vital in our promotion challenge next season.
