March 10, 201412 yr I had a wander down there yesterday with the Dog, some of the prices that narrowboats go for are ridiculous. One was for sale for 25k, it looked ready for the scrap yard.
March 10, 201412 yr That's the sort of fact that leigh white would have woken up to inform us in the car yesterday before going back to sleep.
March 10, 201412 yr There was a programme about the L&L Canal on TV in the last few weeks. And Wiki..... tells the story. Essentially the subscribed money ran out, and, due to the War of the American Colonies, there were no public funds available, so building halted for 10 years. Both Horwich and Leigh feature in the story. Its purpose was comparable to that creating the M62. And its timeline should be compared to that for HS2.
March 10, 201412 yr I worked with a bloke years ago who lived on 1 of those barge thingy's and he got back 1 Saturday night pissed and missed his footing and the poor bastard drowned Edited March 10, 201412 yr by mannyroad58
March 10, 201412 yr fucking brilliant for getting in the running miles for my annual half marathon. In Spring and Summer We regularly drive to Foulridge then run for 5-6 miles towards skipton before turning back, brilliant countryside and not a lager drinking chav to be seen. I think its an immense piece of engineering and love the stories of the hard drinking, fighting navvies descending on the unsuspecting country folk as the canal construction neared em. Reminds me of many a bolton invasion of the 70's and 80's.
March 10, 201412 yr Blackmen/women can't swim I thought it was that they can swim, they just can't float. Some knobhead I used to work with reckoned you never see black milkmen.

March 10, 201412 yr A duck's quack does echo. Just thought I'd throw that in before anyone else said that they don't. Truth. Just the shape of the sound wave makes the echo inaudible from the actual quack itself.
March 11, 201412 yr Look on 4 on Demand or whatever it is called - Baldrick walked the canal from Liverpool to Wigan. Not brilliant, but some interesting bits. Was on about 3 weeks ago
