Seriously this thread and the myriad of facebook campaigns are a joke. Its an area heavily (solely?) occupied by the muslim community. They want to build a place of worship on a currently derelict site.

Manc City Centre now. Lived in Rusholme and Longsight for 5 years previously. Picture bottom end of Blackburn and Halliwell Roads and multiply it by about 15 and you have the area I used to live in.

 

All the crime and unsociable behaviour came from the fucking crack heads and student nob heads not the asians. 

 

EDIT: Apart from that one time a house was completely emptied for terrorist offences. Other than that...

To argue on these grounds I would agree with as they are genuine planning concerns. Some folk just see "mosque" and they've got their backs up straight away.

 

I would also say the buildings probably don't have to fit in with the surrounding area given the surrounding area is a fucking hole already.

A lot of it is moving from converted ex industrial premises into purpose built facilities.

 

Moses gate is mile from Astley Bridge.

 

I get the concerns on parking and lack of light, parking especially.

I know from experience there is a reluctancy to clamp down on parking outside mosques and musharias for fear of getting the racist label. The approach has been to get the mosques, community centres to provide extra facilities to improve road safety. There does need to be a harder line taken against illegal parking all over without fear of being labled.
