I've been led to believe it's a gloomier outlook than that. The financial incentive for biotech companies to invest in antibacterials is poor, and the numbers doing so are shrinking. I read an interesting article about researchers in Bern the other day. Essentially they've developed liposomes which look like the membranes of a cell to passing nasty bacteria. They act as a decoy and fool the bacteria into using up their exotoxins. Rendered harmless they are easier for the body to deal with naturally and because the bacteria isn't under direct attack like it would be from an antibiotic, it doesn't need to evolve a selective resistance. Clever shit, but miles away from becomming a reality at the moment. Great if you're a mouse though as that's all its been tested on!,
