Wanky flag? Men and women have fought and died under that flag, what's happened under the flag of St George in living memory, a few patio chairs and glasses launched across squares and a dozen or so s

A poll of ex pats who fucked off from this country anyway. Well that's hardly surprising. Again, it's not an issue you should be really troubling your little antipodean head with.

It's a Bolton head sonny and resembles a large melon. Little it is not.

Do not talk utter bollocks (difficult in your case, I know).  This could well be the catalyst for a return. I was already in the throes of a return to Europe for a large portion of the year but a Labour Party free (almost) England with the added bonus of the millstone removed might well be an irresistible attraction.

Like I couldn't get the UK one here if I wanted it. Tsk.

NHS? Private health cover for me pal and 'for life' if I can last here past next July.

Walshaw poppycock from start to finish.

Can you and BD not read, I've already given answers to the points you raise such as a Labour Party free England. It's becoming tiresome having to repeat myself.

As for conjecture, we could have a dozen responses to the round here, my mate says, my family thinks they should all fuck off. Both sides of this adecdotal evidence is both meaningless in terms of gauging what people believe and it terms of the election as we don't have a vote.

I hope that's clear enough.

Bolty, returning to the homeland? You do know it's 2014 and not 1952, don't you? You might not like us now we've changed.

I think it's one thing saying "I'm voting yes", it's another actually doing it.

Sorry for wasting your time, comrade.

It was like 1980 all over again.

especially if it means going out in the rain to vote.

Comrade? You must be mistaking me for someone else.

I'm sat here colouring in big parts of the world with a "British empire pink" crayon.

Now fetch my boots, sambo. We've got countries to invade.

God save our king!

Brilliant, Salmond is blaming the BBC of running with the RBS relocation story. Of course the Scottish people should be told after the vote.

6 point lead for No I believe today.

At the moment nothing makes me happier that watching that plank squirm.

BBC, horrible disgrace of an organization, cmon super Alex rally the troops you can do it

What is rubbish is all these last minute stories about banks relocating and supermarket prices increasing have not been out before.

Massive vote so give people all the facts.

Salmond does not have any facts to give, just what he hopes will happen

They are a statement of the obvious.

The distribution costs to the Highlands and Islands are far greater than to anywhere else. Currently the costs are effectively subsidised by the rest of the UK, but that will not happen if Scotland goes its own way. Equally, postage costs should be held for several years, whereas they will spiral in Scotland.

The financial institutions have always been expected to move to be registered in England rather than Scotland if push comes to shove, because of the need for stability.

And Scotland is going to have to shell out for suitably prestigeous Embassy properties in London, Washington, Paris, Berlin, Rome, etc, etc, etc.

As well as giving English students the same financial rights as other EU nationals have.

Scaremongering Malcolm!!!!! Scaremongerer!!!

Well this depends on how generous the remaining UK wants to be. In practice this could mean anything. All I can see that they will be guaranteed is consular assistance where they have no embassy of their own as per Commonwealth arrangements. I expect that they will be shoved in a back office at the larger UK embassies. Our place, for instance, also houses the embassies of New Zealand and Estonia. We feed them, look after their medical needs, accommodate them, let them use our IT plumbing, allow them nowhere near my office etc. The smaller missions, except for in oil type countries, won't need to worry as Scotland won't seek representation in that many places. They are set for Beazer Homes League levels of international obscurity. I would be surprised if they have twenty embassies outside oil producers and the EU.

Agreed but I think this is because until the one poll showed Yes winning the other day no-one had considered that it actually might happen. It's a good thing the debate started because the Yes position looks ever more ridiculous now. Only spite can rationally explain a Yes vote. And if they vote Yes out of spite then they are welcome to the misery which awaits them.

I think it's one thing saying "I'm voting yes", it's another actually doing it.

This is what I've been thinking.

It's one thing spouting down the pub, slating Westminster, Her Maj., but in in the cold light of day, nobody who's wired up right would want to leave the UK

Of course the electorate will have thought all this out.

It feels as though the Union people thought they were going to piss it and have only started taking it seriously in last week or so.

I think you're right Ani. Having said that, I still think it'll be closer to 60% voting to stay as is

Here's a thought. Anyone know the answer?

If the Yes is 51%, I assume that's it, they're off.

If the No is 51%, I assume they're not.

Though if it's that close & the No scrapes through, I'm guessing that won't be the last we hear on the matter, I'm guessing in x years down the line, they'll be wanting another vote.

Now, if the Yes scrapes through with 51%, I'm guessing the separation goes through, billions & billions is spent putting the break through. Then, with it being such a close run thing, some other Jock decides they want the Union back & want another vote, then what?

Has any of this scenario been considered by anyone?

Shouldn't there be a minimum of say 60-65% majority needed to give a decision one way or the other?

I don't think this has been thought through properly, or maybe I'm missing something!

It's going to be close, it was always going to be. No one thought this was going to be a walk in the breeze.

I've just listened to a Scottish ex para taking part in the invictus games

Lost both of his legs fighting in the uniform of my country

I'd be gutted not to share a flag with the likes of him

Thems the rules.

If it is close (and yes to staying together), then no doubt Salmond will be knocking on the door in 5 years time.

Hopefully, we'll tell him where to go.

If it is yes to go, then they should be told that they are never coming back.

If it is yes, there will be a large minority of pissed off British Scots. Such a large minority didn't work out well in N Ireland. Salmond doesn't know what he's set in train here.

What about the Gurkhas?

Should they all live here too?

If Joanna Lumley says so, then yes
