I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

What an absolute joke when a side that could finish in the bottom 4 and having their worst season for years, could qualify for the chamoions league.

The joke started when they let teams who weren't champions in

3 tiers of European football is just a joke

Correct, but a 3rd is just proper tinpot

I'll not be convinced otherwise

No it's not.

We had that for years and years.

European Cup, Cup Winners Cup, UEFA Cup.

We were all happy with that.

Fair point.

I suppose pissing around with the premier one, so that it isn't just about league winners, devalues it, which subsequently devalues the others.

No problem with it in theory

It's sort of like the Nations League in that in that it pits the top teams against each other and gives the smaller clubs from weaker leagues a chance to play for something rather than just being whipping boys

It's just a bit shit when a team like Chelsea get to the final playing their brunch warmers

I'd personally love a go at the conference league if we got back in the PL

And I'm sure West ham fans enjoyed winning it

In theory it's a great idea. It was supposed to be for teams in leagues outside the top to play each other in a good European competition.

The issue is the PL is too rich - West Ham are something like the 16th richest club in the world as bonkers as that sounds. I mention this because they are not minnows and they won it.

It'll be nothing but English champs (with the odd German one) for the foreseeable which is just daft.

It rewards failure

Nope - it's supposed to give teams outside the top decent European competition. The fact that the PL devalues it by its very nature isn't the fault of the competition itself.

You're looking at it from just an English/top club point of view. Look at the clubs who have been involved. I'd say it's one of the better ideas of the last few years.

I wasn't trying to. Just offering a different perspective.

Soon there'll be more PL teams in Europe than not.

Yep, absolute joke, Europe should be the pinnacle for a club, now it's just devalued shite, again, rewards failure for being shite in the league

IMO

If we ever got back into any European competition I’d be delighted.

We are all entitled to one. If I was a Chelsea fan and they beat Betis I'd still be ecstatic.

If we won it I'd probably have a euphoric heart attack.

Keep dreaming of impossible quads pal.

Don't get me wrong if we was to ever do it again I'll be on the first flight to whatever 3rd world shit hole we end up in

Point stands tho

I think it should go to the league winner, FA cup winner and the other one that changes it's name every other season (milk/league/coca cola) cup. They have won something and should get three spots.

But if course, it's all about making money, so the more they have in the better they see it.

It’s funny it was called European cup when it was for champions. Now vice versa.

Ive no issue with it. Once it wasn’t just for champions the game was up and now it’s become something else.

I like the conference league. So little can be won over a season. If you have a chance then it should just be enjoyed.

my only caveat is the b team cup. It’s shite but I still went to the final.

Agree. I do wonder if the values of the cups/prize money would increase to reflect the big prize of qualifying.

My understanding is the PL wouldn’t entertain giving a place up for cup winners.

Think over half the German league were in some form of European tournament last season.
