I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

Words in being used for different things?

Never happened before!

Your general definition was the original one. Expanded a long way since then.

BTW, it isn't screamed. Not like the left screech 'racist' and 'far right' at the most mild mannered ordinary people concerned about the welfare of their children.

Whatever your definition, 'woke' has had it's short time in the sun. Better times are coming.

Seems like I'm always seeing right wing folk screaming about woke. Shame if they get their way, I like most things as they are now.

🤦‍♂️

Trafford?

He’ll not win Burnley many points this season will he @Johnnyrotten? 😂

Coleman would have saved those too

Not forcing errors by pressing, well why do it then?

Fucking hell, Pep's lot were the masters at building from the back, and were also the masters at pressing and stopping others doing likewise. Might be worth asking a few defenders if the pressing causes the odd mistake.

If no one bothered going within 10 yards of the defenders they could pass it amongst themselves to their hearts' content. They could even make fairly poor passes, and it wouldn't matter.

Thinking about it, why bother pressing in midfield or anywhere for that matter?

I agree with all that, I'm just saying if you press, you aren't "forcing errors", how can you force another player to pass it to you or get caught in possession?  You can just give them the opportunity to cock up, and its in your gift whether or not you fall for it.  Nobody forced Baxter to pass it to a defender 6 yards away when he was clearly marked.  Yes the pressing is all great, full of athleticism and organisation to do it as a team but it all relies on shit play from the defenders to make it work, and the likes of Southampton and Fulham, or Burnley last season, were only too happy to oblige and not learn from their mistakes.

And having players hanging around the opposition box doesn't have to be a "press", it gets over analysed.  25 years ago nobody had heard of the press, but you'd still have players like David Reeves, McGinlay and Kev Davies up front closing down defenders, its just in them days the defenders had the good sense not to pass around their 6 yard box.

About time he had something to save 😀

Good saves, two bad pens telegraphed.

I bet he didn't catch any crosses under pressure 😀

Crellin saved penalties for us.

Crellin wasn’t our young player of the year and he certainly didn’t keep 9 consecutive clean sheets.

Since he left us he’s been a decent keeper in a shit team.

Not sure of your point.  He was the worst BW keeper any of us can remember.  But he saved penalties, he was still crap.

I haven't watched him at Accy, if he's improved I'm genuinely pleased for him, just going off what I saw here.

On the "pressing" debate, check out Cardiff's 2nd v Swansea just now.

No pressing by the striker, he was the only Cardiff player anywhere near the box, Swansea passed it back 20 yards to him.  Swansea the championship version of Southampton, its bobbins and its nothing tactical that presented Cardiff with a goal.

My point was that JT has more to offer than just a few penalties saved. He was young player of the year for a reason. And kept 8 clean sheets on the bounce.

I don't. We will have to disagree. I like the way things are heading though.

Anyway, back to football. Watched two excellent games so far this weekend. Newcastle v Bournemouth was a sensational game. The final score didn't reflect the game but the best team won, that's for certain.

Atalanta v Napoli another first class 5 goal thriller. Sensational result for Conte and his team. Forza Partenopei.

Can't argue with that.  He's a good keeper.  Just not basing a keeper's quality on a couple of penalty saves when they all do it from time to time.  Obviously not often its 2 in 5 minutes!   Fair play to him.

I still prefer Baxter at his peak for his all round game, just not sure if that ship has sailed now for us.

Bournemouth are an unbelievable team to watch, especially away from home when the bigger stadiums do justice to their style of play.

Surely a bigger club will snap up Iraola in the summer, top manager.

Given their injury list yesterday was an amazing result.....

But then they have a bit of bottle about them.

We'll have him.

How many will Welbeck score today? I'm going for 2 :D

🤞

Everton doing well today, amazing what a change of manager and a solid formation that suits their style will do for a club
