When I was at uni in Sheffield my campus was across the road from the crucible, so round this time of year you'd basically see snooker players wandering around going about their own business in between games

Jimmy White in WH Smith reading, but not buying, the papers 

Stephen Hendry sat on a bench by the fountains doing scratch cards 

John Higgins watching the footy scores come in through the window at Dixon's 

Bet they don't mingle like that anymore

They could for me, I wouldn't have a clue who 90% of them are these days.

Many players, towards the end of their playing careers, joined TV companies as pundits and commentators. Two or three became TV personalities in their own right rather than just ‘former snooker players’; John Virgo, John Parrott, Steve Davies for example.

Question for those who remain avid watchers, do these newer batch of players have personalities like they did in the 70s, 80s and 90s?

There are some interesting personalities out there. There are just a lot more top end players these days. They all have countless 147s under their belt for example, whilst someone like John Virgo only ever had a top break of 139.

Steve Davies was never really considered a character until his dominance was coming to an end.
