Dad And Lad.

Never went to a game with my dad at Bolton early on, that was until he got a driving licence, he was madder than me at away games in the 70s with the hired mini bus. My son still goes to the games, but goes with his mates, but meet up now and again in the pubs.

If pressed, my dad would say he's a Huddersfield fan and my mum went to watch Millwall and Charlton as a kid so I always went to games with my mate's family when I was growing up.

Go with my son and grandson he is 6 in jan to home matches ,grandson wants to go to more away matches but he can't understand that they all stand up and he won't be able to see

Grandson talks more sense than grandad (and especially uncle)

Is your dad a season ticket holder there?

My brother got me into the Whites, never did burnden with my dad but we had him come to the ESL a fair few times in recent years.

He's fucked it off since we got relegated though the glory hunting bastard!

Took my nephew to his first game v Rabotnicki at home, he's not a fan of football though.

Took my lad to Vitesse this year and the last two Chorley aways preseason. He's not gonna have a choice!

Was that the game he confessed to wanting to be a ballerina

No that was sheff utd in the FA cup third round.

I've brought him to about 6 or 7 games now between the ages of about 6 and 10 but he just doesn't get it or seem interested in football.

Love taking junior to the game and he loves being with the lads. Won't be long before he can buy the boys a beer or 2 for all the j2o's he has been bought in his time!!

Jnr Marple will be on both driving and carrying duty soon - it's only fair

My dads dead but took me to Bolton V Liverpool 1967 3-2 and Bolton v Citeh 1971 3-0. First as  a 7 year old on the embankment and second in the wing stand.  Me own lad wuz took many a times 1989 onwards. He gave up a few years after i did. Sad but its the way it goes.

I love my dad, grandad , great grandad...

Generation after generation....

We've been there.

Pikes Lane to burnden park, Reebok, Macron, call it what you will...... We'll be there. Now on 5G & still going strong home & away.

We are family, BWFC.

mum n dad took me from towards the end of 72/3 until i was old enough to go on my own

they carried on going until a visit of chelsea when they took over the burnden stand and neither of em attended another game

mum died a couple of years ago and was glued to the radio for every game

I sit with dad at home games, he is disabled but sits in ESL, yesterday for first time in seasons I was I ground before him and saw how much he struggles to get up the steps, really made me sad, he loves going and takes my nephew, I take my step son, we sit with my sisters god father , his son and his kids...it is like the Waltons.

Having seen my dad struggle not sure how long he will be going for, he has already given up with away games and night games but he is mid 70s and it is hard work for him, he loves being there but can not get up when they score.

I have suggested getting tickets somewhere easier to access but he likes where we are and the hip flasks of whiskey, brandy, rum etc etc.

Not sure how I feel going when stops going, lad is 17 next year and although we live in Leeds he has a few mates who come to games with us and he already talks about going to games on his own.

Fairly sure there are lifts in WSU, If the choice is stop going or changing seats this may be your answer.

Still a certain amount of climbing to get to your seat from the concourse etc though isn't there? Failing that I'm pretty sure you're allowed to enter through one of the corner gates and get seats on the first couple of rows so there's very few steps to climb, though it does mean getting piss wet through on days like yesterday.

You were old enough to go on your own in 72.

You'd started work by then.

there's lifts in ESU too

I can't wait until my grandson is old enough to come to games with me ,bit young yet at 3 yr old mind  , I have 3 daughters who had no interest really although i tried bringing them all . My old fella is 79 this year and prefers listening in on wireless at home in comfort supping at home these days.

We in row P so not that much walking but still too much for him, he parks tight outside but when bad weather kicks in still a lot for him.

Going to be a tough call for him but not sure he can manage another season.

Ani try lion of Vienna or similar. They have seats that a infront of the area

I have mentioned moving somewhere easier to access but he does want to sit away from the people we sit with there are about ten of us, will ask him but think he is resigned to having to either move or stop going.

Can't you all move?

Can't you all move?

In theory, but everyone is happy where we are and the bit we are in is accessible as nearly anywhere in the ground unless we move designated areas and doubt we all can (or would want to) move together.

I had never thought about it till I saw him struggling with the steps on Saturday.

You'd think the club could put a ramp rather than steps in 1 part of the ground so that people with limited mobility could be pushed up to the top and then helped in there seats and maybe some seats kept close by the ramp for these folk. This isn't a dig at BWFC I'm sure they'd help in any way they could.

My old man took me to my first Wanderers game against Leyton Orient at home 1992-3 season and I've been hooked ever since. Although I believe I would still be a Bolton fan without my Dad's influence, I don't think it would be to the same extent.

Play-Off misery, Play-Off ecstasy, 100th goal at Tranmere, League Cup Final loses, Europe, Premier League relegations (the Everton one hurt the most), I've been through it all with him.

Living at the other end of the country I don't see him as much as I would like, but whenever we do catch up on the phone it's not about work or health or even weekend plans, it's mainly just about the Wanderers, and I wouldn't swap it for anything.

Really good article on the subject below by a Millwall fan overcoming his often difficult relationship with his Dad through Millwall. Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch is also a really good read on the subject.

My dad never took me to a match. He hates football and thinks they are all over paid wankers.I started going to Burnden in the early 80s on my own when I was old enough.Tried to get the old man to come but he never would and still won't.Now I have my own son and he's been coming from the age of 5.He's now 11.

There's no better feeling than having your kin at the side of you, even when we lose.Knowing that when he grows up he wil look back on these times with fondness makes me happy.

I haven't talked to my father in 10 years but still wish he was at my side with his Grandson on matchdays.I've got to say I'm jealous of the guys with every generation represented on matchday.

My old man took me to my first game around 1976, unfortunately he passed away in 82, so the lucky bugger never had to go the probably the shittest times of being a Wanderer.

My uncle used to take me after that but he didn't do away games, went to Preston around 84 with a school mate, he got a lift back, I was on the special on my own, shat myself, arrived home about half eight, mum shitting herself, no mobiles in them days.

My dads side are all whites, my mums are all filth, the utd top my aunt bought my younger brother when he was 4 ended up in the bin and he' been a white ever since. I'll keepmit going in the family.
